I always find that winter barley is the crop with the widest swings in yield .
Same here - in recent years anything from 4t/hectare to 4t/acre, mainly determined by April rainfall.

Not enough then this time so yields likely to be average at best and dull conditions here now have delayed harvesting by a week or so until July 10th.

Wheat can't be on the turn this early, can it?
Some of our wheat on the really light ground has had patches starting to give up last week in the hot weather. Had a good dose of rain past couple of days though to keep it hanging on a bit longer, probably enough to see us through to harvest but it’s too late for the patches that have gone.

Will be starting winter barley as soon as it drys up again though probably towards the end of next week looking at the forecast.

Ive certainly got some on the decline. Maybe a bit of takeall. Oddly it seems to be areas of taller plants, so perhaps the unrelenting wind. Im not sure we have had an inch of rain since late March.

Wheat here is pretty much done, and to add to its woes, the pigeons are piling in to it causing serious damage. Hey ho, can’t do much about the lack of rain.

so what areas are looking best/worst crop wise
Northumberland / Borders are looking tip top.

The general appearance of crops is very good; but something else became apparent about last December, that the normal variation found across fields with 'mixed' difficult soils wasn't there. Fields are predominantly good corner to corner, which bodes well for raising average yields.

On the flip side, spring crops were looking very droughty, especially inland, though a damp week should have perked them up.

Looking about around east Dorset looks like some first wheats are suffering with take all from a distance white patches showing up .
