This field of Direct drilled Barley looked horrible all winter . All you could see was the previous year’s wheat stubble. Nothing much wrong with it now apart from the fact it should have had more PGR.

spring barley after mid tier cover crop.

all crops no tilled into our hanslope clay. Shame about the smatterings of blackgrass after osr but that picture is of the worse field, think we are better off than many around here. Looking forward to harvest!

Will the winter barley yield be any good????
From the picture it looks very thin, when I've had barley looking like that it's been 30cwt/AC.
i think it will yield okay, the picture seems to make it look thinner than it is i agree, theres also quite alot of tillers that arent out properly yet or a lower down under the top. it did 6t/ha last year after being mauled in late and looked terrible all year and its much better than that. its malting so only had 100kg/n hoping for 7.5t/ha.
the last time we grew hybrid feed barley it looked incredibly thick and good and the yield was pretty poor.

Walking around crops on Sunday thinking these will be the last proper crops grown here before the landlords rewild it all. What a tragic waste after 25 years of effort. First two are Cassia winter Barley. Others are Extase wheat.

Little bit of tipping in the Graham compared to the gleam. Same tank of spray. Hope it's just a bit of a varietal trait.
