Statement from Red Tractor

Due to the number of threads on TFF at the moment, we have requested a statement from Red Tractor to see if they will be taking into account what indiviudal farmers are saying and the overwhelming numbers on the two polls.

The consultation is open to all our members and stakeholders. Farmers have been an intrinsic part of the process in drawing up the proposals we are seeking views on. They are proposals.. The final proposition of the Standards will reflect the views of those in the industry who engage with the process. The consultation is open until the 5th March.

The bit that worries me is that stakeholders - ie retail carry as much weight as farmers. Also that they only care about what you say if you want to go through the hour long process of filling in their consultation. NOTHING else matters.

The arrogance of this is astounding.

So some farmers (those on RT board) have helped shape the proposals.

“Those in the industry” probably as you say means the “food industry” rather than farming as might be assumed from that statement. I.e Farmers’ views will represent 2% of “those in their industry” rather than 100% of the farming industry.

So who’s actually read through the 52 pages of (combinable crops) amendments? I have and it looks like a load more paperwork bollox and stupid ideas. To name 1 you can’t put grain in a bucket or trailer if it’s damp, what if there’s a shower when loading or on the way to pick up a load from the field 🤦‍♂️. Risk assessments for pretty much every job! It’s beyond a joke now.

The thing that strikes me is this time RT and the bodies to which it aligns to seem to be a lot keener to hear views on there proposals.
how many times in the past have they added layers of pointlessness without letting us have a say!

I still think they will attempt to press on regardless of what we all think (which will be a big kick in the teeth for uk ag) but do get the feeling that there starting to take note that they ain’t as liked or wanted as they thought.

Do you have to sign the new Welfare Book to confirm you washed your hands after going to the Loo?

Not sure how the food industry is going to cope with that one after it leaves the farm. Our local port has lorries tipping the grain onto the dockside to load into boats. The barges don't wait if it's raining and carry on regardless............. loading it all while the sea gulls and other birds are shitting all over it as well as eating it !!

We don't grow wheat any more but when we used to deliver our grain to local merchant, in a busy year there were heaps all over the concrete, both assured and non-assured. Didn't get shifted inside on the same day either. Of course the yard is totally rat and bird proof.
