Static roller mill and mix

How does the QM6000 act as a mixer?
can't fault it for mixing, the only thing if your using pellets in a dry mix (no pot ale syrup) the pellets can roll down the heap into a more concentrated ring, but you will get that with any machine just spitting it onto a heap, we had a load of draff meal rather than pellets 2 years ago and it mixed better with the corn, otherwise good quick machine

So if using protein pellets do you put them in the hopper with the Barley and run it all through the Mill?

Have looked at leaflet but I can’t see where the mixing takes place. I was anticipating something that mixed after the Barley had been rolled. Sorry if I appear a bit thick on this.

Why don’t you just chuck the protein pellets on top of the heap of bruised barley and mix it with the loadall bucket

they auger the pellets into the auger that's taking the rolled barley away, its a bit of a guess estimation.
you need to know that your rolling say 10 ton per hour and you want to mix say 20% protein to barley. so you need 2 ton/ hour of protein augering in. so 33.33kg/min.

I would imagine the newer ones with on board weighers will be quite accurate.

On board weighers, that sounds better (y)

Sorry to push in on the thread. I have managed to pick up a second hand Alvan Blanch mill and mixer but not set it up yet. I am just scratching my head as to how to make an accurate mix when the mill rolls the cereal directly into the mixer. The only way I can think to do it is to measure volume in a bin before it goes through the mill. Any suggestions for how I should set it up? I also want to convert the mill to pto rather than three phase so thinking it may be better to demount it from the mixer.

I have a similar setup in an old building, we weighed a mixer full to the brim by bagging it and putting it in the cattle weigh crush. and then just try to fill to the same level each time.
when using that setup I set roller mill going, add protein to mixer then keep mill going until full to level.

there are 3 hoppers on a QM6000 largest @2t of grain which is above the rollers, on the side of that there's a smaller 1 @3/4t for pellets which are fed into the main mixing auger along the bottom of machine via a hydraulic driven auger and near the back of machine where the IBC sits is a smaller again hopper @150kg for minerals which in turn feeds via a smaller hydraulic auger into the main mixing auger which runs the full length of machine to the unloading elevator that can discharge either side just by moving a chute and swinging elevator over a slider, the ibc can be used to dribble in potale syrup or for additive application when crimping

Thank you, very helpful (y)

you can weigh the pellets/minerals out on a certian time by reversing the augers and catching stuff in a bucket, this gives a slighty more accurate setting if you know how much barley is going through the rollers IIRC 16% moisture barley rolls @10-12t/hr

that's what we used to have, it was static under a hopper that held 2t, i think the mixer held 3/4t so by the time you poured in your pellets/beat pulp and whatever else into the little opening at the back it ended up a 1t mix

We ended up getting a skiold mill with 3 rollers in, the third roller is i think a pre roller to help feed beans etc into the main rollers but also makes it quicker for rolling cereals.
I have not roller beans but i don't think our old Alvan Blanch would even of rolled beans

We use a structure mill under a hopper on weigh cells. Just weigh the desired quantities of oats, barley, beans etc into the hopper, set the mill going, & leave it to get on with it. Rollers getting a bit blunt after 15 years now, so a bit slower but still does the job.
