Steel framed Building Electric Fit Out

Hi,

Just having a new steel framed insulated building put up. Will need to sort electrics next. Any advice on fitting out welcome, eg can any commercial / industrial electricians do it, grounding issues etc.

It will need armoured cable pulled through trench then looking for a well lit LED batten light set up, 13A & 16A ring with sockets around building.

What should I watch out for, what a ball park costs 12m x 12m, any advice welcome.

Also, currently have a condition stating "at least 10% of the predicted energy requirements will be met through the use of renewable carbon energy generating facilities". Low energy use will be required, so any advice of satisfying this?

Many thanks

3ph board. 3ph 13a skts on board. 13a sockets on wall steels in swa. (Steel conduit / trunking a lot more money due to time)
Lighting led strip if using it 10hrs a day.
Hf fluorescents if on minimum time.
Led 80w flood outside on photo cell.

Farm should be tt earth sytem/ earth rod. but if shed has a earth mat fitted you can do away with earth rod for that building.

Thanks for the reply, mine will be a 1ph supply if that works ok as its from a domestic supply fuse box taken from outside a residential property.

Looks like fluorescents are the way then, did think that LEDs would be cheaper though

Looks like the conduit alone will cost a small fortune, gulp!!

Could use plastic conduit not galvanised.
Make sure supply to shed is fed from non rcd side in house.
So it has own rcd in shed. Cos if fault in shed it will trip house or part of it. Presuming house has rcd.

Many thanks for that TripleSix, that sounds like a much better solution in respect of speed and cost, I assume that SY cable in a steel framed building meets any applicable regs?

Thanks again

Does all the wiring need to be armoured? One of our sheds has been done by the pros in twin and earth along top timber perlins all around with the drop downs for outdoor type sockets in 2.5 armoured. Looks very tidy.

I would think the savings made in t&e would be lost in the extra work in all the extra connections. If you do decide to use LED then you can potentially reduce the lighting circuit to 1.0mm which saves a bit.

Sy cable shouldn't be used as it's meant for use on machines as control cables as is not listed in b.s. regs. But it's commonly used still and admittedly I've still used it.
T e clipped in roof then in plastic 25mm conduit drops to metal sockets is a cheaper option

Thanks for the comments, all helpful if not also slightly confusing in what is and is not acceptable for a steel frame building.

Anyone got any recommendations for good electrians used to doing new installs on a steel framed building in Worcester, Warwickshire, West Midlands area.

Last two here, we've done the whole building in armoured cable. Clipped to beams and sits lovely inside a zed purlin for the lights.
Made most of it up on the floor, with galv steel boxes, waterproof glands, etc, easy as you know its exactly 6m bays.
Its a bit slow going terminating the armour cable into boxes etc, but buy the proper wire cutter and after a few its a piece of p!ss.
You can buy 1.5mm SWA cable for about 70-80p/meter and 2.5mm SWA for just over £1/m so to put lights to the other end of a 120' shed its £30 plus the clips and fittings.
And it is an extremely tidy job.

We have just built a decent sized shed 24m x 35m. We used Hi-Bay LED lighting....what a light! 9 units in the whole shed and its brighter than Wembley.

All cables run in the Z purlins, very clean install.

Exterior lighting is also LED floods.

Tubed strip lighting would be a fair bit cheaper but I couldn't be arsed with swapping out tubes/starters every other week.

I would highly recommend LED's
