Hello,

Looking for ideas- if you had the option of putting up a steel portal cattle court with central feed pass on level ground what would you create, what materials? What clever ideas to create with a large budget? Building needs to be aesthetically pleasing to fit into surrounding traditional steading, energy efficient, high tech and environmentally sensitive.

So, if money was no object.......

Keep the shed simple. I'd prefer feeding on the outside and handling system up the middle for beef cattle.
Auto Controlled ventilation with galebreakers etc. Weigh pads at water troughs. Activity monitors. Cctv.
A lot of stuff depends on what sort of cattle you will have in there though.

There's a chap near here that has bricked the outside of his buildings. There was a rumour that the insides were tiled as well!

I'd have a central passage raised up with troughs either side, 50ft deep pens so I could easily blow straw in. A set of gates 12 ft back from the fence so that you can fasten the cattle in to the back of the shed to scrap out or onto the scrape passage to muck out behind them. This could also be used to take batches out for weighing etc. Lots of light and ventilation
Exterior would be fibre cement roof, automatic galebreaker sides and probably concrete panels. Badger proof doors on the ends for LFU status. La Buvette from IAE water troughs.

MissSteak, appreciate you are some way from us, but if you have time to look at a few completed larger projects £1m+( granted the buildings are for housing dairy cattle) that we have completed in the last year or so, which will likely incorporate a lot of the things you maybe be considering.
Happy to show you around with no obligation and you may get some ideas that help with your plans.......we are a helpful bunch and not remotely interested in high pressure selling!

Roundhouse is a good shout and good quality build to boot. Definitely aesthetically pleasing in my view!
I think a conventional building with a overhang on both sides and feed to the outsides with some self locking yokes and central handling passage way and loading dock to each end could be just as good with out the concern as to how long the roof cover is going to last and how much it would cost to replace after all you could have a hell of a set up for £130 k
