Hello,

Can anybody help me please:
.
........how do you go about fixing agricultural style corrugated steel cladding in place of roof tiles on a normal, new house build?

How do you insure condensation does not form under the steel sheet? - or do people actually use composite steel sheet and just rest the bonded insulation on top of house rafters and tech screw straight through into the rafters / plywood skin?

Could anybody give me a link to a diagram showing the correct lay out of materials required to fit box profile cladding to a modern timber frame house roof and pass building inspection successfully.

Thank you.

When we put a steel framed house up we put 160mm composite on then the slaters fixed there batons through the comp sheets

So you
You can use tile effect insulated roof sheeting, and fix it just like you do on a barn. Richards castle Village hall is done just like this. But no reason to use tile effect if you don't want to.

So they are using a pre insulated steel sheet as a bonded composite panel and just tech screwing straight onto plywood covered rafters?

yes, a normal residential house with box profile tin sheets used instead of roof slates.

How can it be done successfully?

I'd have a tin roof on a house, but my wife thinks differently. Every house in NZ that I saw had a tin roof.

I think the detail would be a rafter with insulation in between, tyvek across the rafters, then a purlin, then the tin fixed, so any condensation will be caught by the tyvek.

I don't know if you'd need a batten fixing on top of the tyvek the same direction as the rafter to give a clear air gap.

One on grand designs had anthracite fibre cement (y)

Height is the problem with composite panels

I was guessing insulation between rafters and under rafters.
Then plywood on rafters
Then tyvek
Then vertical battens
Then horizontal battens
The a plasticoated thin steel sheet slapped on top to finish

But was wondering what would happen about condensation / mould etc

It would trap between the tyvek and the sheet wouldn't it? Rotting your sheet from the inside maybe

We just clad under the purlins with plywood, dropped rockwool in then clad it as usual, but we weren't doing it under building regs.

It's been grand and you can't hear the rain from the inside.(y)
