We're 8 years into a uplands HLS scheme, and originally paid every 6 months,
After 5 years there payment structure changed meaning we only received 50% for one year but would receive the other 50% at the end of the scheme, (whilst receiving 50% every six months again, so basically missing 1 payment till the scheme ended) you keeping up?:scratchhead:
In 2016 they changed the structure again, 75% in sept, then 25% 6 months later,
2016 fine,
2017, paid 75% in sept all good! 6 months later nothing?
Well I bit the bullet and rang NEngland this morning to see if it was a problem on my part?
No not your fault sir, your claim is being processed should be paid between now (end of Aug) and the end of November!
Hang on this is my 2017 claim what about 2018?
I'm sorry sir we have no news on 2018 claims yet?
I was lost for words probably just as well:censored:.
Good job I don't run my business like this:poop:.

similar here......looking foward to the end of my agreement.....which is a shame cos it's really worked wildlife wise

thinking about the new scheme....would like to ...but:scratchhead:

makes me cross when gove goes on about farmers improving productivity while a sh!t in a bucket could do a better job of his own dept

It's not huge money but I'm limited to what I can do with the land, heaven help me should I breach the plan, serious consideration about a 2020 scheme!
On the plus side the capital works hedging and fencing have been useful.

mine ends feb 2020.....mines worth £40/acre over the whole farm but is very disruptive

lessons i've learned
1/ 10 yrs is to long to sign up to
2/ if i renew it'll be a lot simpler

I’m in year 2 of Css mid tier. Got paid 75% in December, am waiting for the other 25% which I understand was due in June. Phoned Natural England about 3 weeks ago and was told I would get paid by the end of August. No sign of any money, so I phoned them on Tuesday morning, and was told someone from the payment team would phone back. Of course, I haven’t heard a thing yet.

Mid tier is a significant enterprise within my farm business, and I really can’t be doing with chasing payments and uncertain cash flow. I’m rapidly coming to regret my decision to join up which is a real shame because I see it providing real benefits to my farm, the wider environment and ultimately my farm business. I just need to be paid to make it financially viable in the short term.

We've must been paid 75% of 2017 HLS. We had a payment way backlate in 2017 but no remittance noted but I had worked out it was 25% of 2017. Massive cashflow impact for us.

I'm glad I'm not the only people waiting for payment, still waiting for 75% of 2016, all of 2017 and some tree planting payments, RPA promised I'll be payed by the end of September , it's quite a considerable amount of money. I've put alot of work into the stewardship schemes and the benefits to the environment and wildlife are great but it has cost money and it would be nice to get reimbursed !

It would be ironic that late payment will solve the problem of late payment as the takeup of stewardship will fall due to late payment and then the staff responsible will have Les to do so payment will gradually catch up and be paid on time

Should we all threaten to plough up our conservation areas as we have not been paid on time

The late payment of rent leads to eviction the late payment for goods leads to non delivery of goods

What a mess

I have been in environmental schemes for about 25 years, (I am currently in HLS) all my hedges have been grown up and layed with help from capital grants over that period, we have dormice and brown harestreak butterflies both targeted species in this area, and both dependent on sensitive hedgerow management. my last capital grant was three years ago. I am now told that there will be no more capital works grants, leaving me with about 7000 meters of hedge in need of laying, at my own expense. Ironically if I wasn't in the HLS I am told I would be able to claim £9.40/meter to lay hedges on the 'hedgerow & boundaries' scheme.
How I feel about this is unprintable.

I have received 2017 75% but still waiting for 25% of 2017 so 8 months late and 75% of 2018 now 2 months late. It’s a complete disgrace. I have been in CS and HLS for 18 years, which includes margins, low input grassland, low input spring cereals and arable reversion amongst other things. It comes to £70 acre across the farm and is a large chunk of income. Fortunately I have a very understanding landlord and bank. I can imagine that it is meaning many are having to sell grain or stock to fill the hole that has been left by the shambles of Natural England and the RPA !!!

Same here 75% of 2017 arrived a while back but the rest hasn't. Can't understand why as were 7 years in on a very simple setup.

Just adding my 5pence worth.....
I think Mr Gove is to blame after he made that speech earlier this year about how farms will have to do more for the environment to get money from the gov. Loads of people have jumped on the mid tier and cs wildlife offers (including me). It would appear they have had a serious increase in applications this year without extra funding to process it all. I applied for an application in early March and I received it in the second week of July (deadline end of july lolol) luckily the extended the application date till the end of august.

Ps anyone doing GS2? Permanent grass with low inputs?

NE as a dept. is getting axed so all staff and commitments are on back burner. No one knows who is accountable or who has what job under any new post brexit subsidy regime so if NE is history. Any agreement with them is likely to be of dubious value.
If they fail so badly to honour their payment commitments without good reason you got to be a “mug” to keep believing. If farmers start getting wind of a market or meat company or corn buyer missing payment deadlines .....you avoid, because down the road it is going to have casualties...all the signs are here but....

Got a field that has gone back terribly under
stewardship 2 years left in 10 year plan,
It's species rich, or was when we entered, now needs re-draining and is covered in rushes, very tempted just to plough and reseed it now as opposed to 2 years done the line..
