Stirling Bull Sales

There was a really shapey little Claragh bull, anyone like him?
I bought a bull off Norman’s which is sired by Claragh Franco. He’s a big bull gets small calves that suck well in most cases. Not convinced he gets as good as the other bull I have that was half the money though. Time will tell

Ha the bull is a good one!! However I have a batch of store cattle coming on and I’m am not convinced they are better than the other lot off the cheaper bull! Yet as you say spending money guarantees nothing

we`ve always done well enough off £3000 bulls up to now....i always think if the breedings right you have half a chance even if the animal doesnt look quite as good.
Struggling to find the 3000 ers at the moment though!

Yes the one that gets well is got by Wilodge Vantastic which I bought more on breeding than looks. He was around 4K

close escape for me there then! they always have good cattle them lads so thought might be worth a punt but it got away! yeah, i liked goldies and a big rangy truemans that made about 5 i think.
Had just been watchin this farmin life the night before about all the tb in ireland...funny how things get into yer head!
I thought exact same regarding this farming life would of totally put me off buying tb1 bull, thought it might have done same for others aswell!

It wouldn’t bother me buying a bull from a TB1 area, that said we are in one though. If he had had his Pre movement test and been in isolation until the sale I couldn’t see a problem with it. No matter what your health status is or that of a prospective purchase once you enter a market until a vaccine is available for Johnes and bTB, there will always be a risk of contracting one or the other.

what you say is all correct....it should be safe from a tb1 where it has been tested regularly, our heads tell us it will be fine but there is just that seed of doubt planted from watching the programme,it is most probably unfounded , but undoubtedly it will put one or 2 off.

I agree, we farm in a TB1 area and it was a tough watch to see the troubles the farm in N Ireland were having and like you said no doubt planted the seed of doubt in a few heads. Purely hypothetical, and in real life the answer would probably be neither, but if you had to pick between a bull from TB1 that was Johnes risk level 1, or a bull from a TB4 but risk level 3 which would you go for?

If i knew a bit about the farm and the area it was from probably the tb1 johnes1....otherwise the tb4 level 3 one....what would you do?
How accurate is the johnes test thing...is a level 3 very risky, nearly bought one the other day!

Hi, sorry to jump in but I was wondering if anyone knows the buyer “Tick Tack” ??? I’ve just watched a few snips of sales across most of the breeds and they’ve bought maybe 12+ bulls at varying specs. Maybe I’ve picked it up wrong from the video as it’s far from the real thing. Cheers in advance.
