Depends how good all these anpr cameras really are. There are supposedly thousands of un insured cars on the road, why don’t they pick them all up
For some technical reason the ANPR cameras are not linked to the DVLA so do not pick up either untaxed, uninsured or cars those overdue for MOT, all of which are offences that, if caught, should very easily pay for any cost to link the systems.

Maybe because they have to be stopped in the act to prosecute, after all your excuse can be your plate was cloned to an identical vehicle.

Umm, how would that work? If your car isn't legal on its own plate, it isn't legal. If someone else has cloned your plate then it is no different to when the car might be caught by a speed camera. You get a notification through the post. It just is not rocket science and its about time the authorities got their act together on this, otherwise we will conclude that they are incompetent.

Are you sure on this> I know its not good etiquette to question the master ;) . I am sure my brother who is a police officer told me that the ones in the traffic cars will ping if they pass an uninsured, un registeered etc plate?

Because an identical vehicle to yours parked up off the road without an MOT/tax has just gone past an camera, are you you going to pay the fine, or tell the police they should have stopped it if they want a prosecution as it wasnt you?... but it COULD have been you?

Of course as they can catch it in the "act"

I think the new ones maybe as a man called in with me one day and I was asking about his new I think fiat pickup great he said apart from it being classed as one of the pickups that have a different speed limit compared to a car he said the new speed anpr cameras talk to the dvla and he’s been done for doing 70 on a dual carriageway he should have been doing 60 on

He thaught that because he can drive it on a standard car license it was ok .dosent matter now someone nicked it from outside his house.so he's bought a smaller van.not acusing any one but it was the week before Appleby and we had quite a few caravan dwellers passing by at the time

Unless his new one is a car-derived van (a goods vehicle which is constructed or adapted as a derivative of a passenger vehicle, and has a maximum laden weight not exceeding 2.0 tons ) he is still on the lower speed limits.

Its the static black ones that I'm thinking of. I'm sure police cars are linked in to the DVLA somehow but on the traffic cop shows I've seen it is done manually by the driver using the radio to ask someone at their call centre to check.

Otherwise how come all these people are apparently driving around without paying tax, insurance and with no MOT? If police cars and static cameras and even speed camera vans could pick out, they would all automatically be issued with penalty notices. They patently are not.

That's only for speed though. Why not do the same for road tax, insurance and MOT? They just don't currently do so for some reason. There may be a legal issue, but surely they could get that sorted, because they have the precedence with speeding.

All commercial vehicles are 50 on single carriage way, 60 dual and 70 Motorways. Has been for years. Wether its a tipper makes no difference. Ignorance is no defense.

What’s the speed limit for a Jeep and trailer in uk? its 80kmh (50mph) even on motorways in Eire
