Potatoes via turnips for beef cattle?
How much dirt contamination is acceptable?
Recently got a load of dry dressed potatoes but it's got a lot of dry soil and stones amongst them, is this normal for dry dressed potatoes?

I'm only feeding small numbers with a mix of spuds and carrots mainly and some swedes but don't feed them dirty. Will wash the tatties if too dirty after lifting and turn the carrots on a concrete floor to shake the soil off.

Think a wee bit of soil is OK but not too much. Stones I wouldn't want in their grub at all.

Tip em on the floor and run over them. Let the long tails pick them over and them scrape soil and stones away. I have an in field roadway I tip all my spud waste on, the stone has made a nice top to it over the years.

lifted these carrots this afternoon, too much soil on them to feed directly in my view, so washed them

We use at least 10 tonnes a week outgrade ware washed . We don't chop or otherwise treat them . Simply telehandler bucket into trough . They waste very few that way and when we did put them through the feeder bucket , they didn't like the pulp produced , so we stopped . Choking ? I think we've had one that was certainly choking from potatoes and another that "might" have been . We keep the hose from an Aggers pump handy just in case.
