Stockboard

I'm building some stables/pens for my horses out of gates and have bought some stockboard to line them to stop the horses putting their legs through them.
Is there any reason why I shouldn't attach the stockboard with cable ties?

I built 3 stables for my wife with removable stanchions so I could get my lambing shed back when needed. I used cattle gates hung a bit higher off the ground with marine ply on the lower bars to prevent legs going through. Tek screws were the simple and cheap solution to fixing the board to the bars. One drill with a socket head driver and a third hand for ten minutes and the job was done.

This is basically what I'm doing. They will double up as lambing pens and the posts are in ground sockets

Same concept as mine. I simply made the stanchions a bit taller to prevent bickering and mane chewing and the boards protrude down from the gates a wee bit to prevent rolling under.
Tek screws are self drilling in to metal. A half decent 18v drill/driver will install them. The heads do not protrude so far that countersinking is really necessary. Also known as self drilling hex head screws. One every 18 inches or so has held my boards for ten years.

I pop riveted my stock board onto the dividing gates in my shed , rather than use tek screws. Purely so the horses didn’t tear their rugs on the head of the tek screw if they are rubbing etc !
