Stocks and Shares - Tips

Does anyone on here invest in stocks and shares - I have been for a while using a couple of platforms and have been lucky on a couple of occasions (though I am really investing for long term steady growth). I normally look for companies in agriculture that I can understand these companies can be surprisingly healthy Associated British Foods for example has done very well.

I would be keen to know other peoples tips. I am hoping Genus for example will be well placed for growth with ASF affecting so many pig producers internationally.

I started this just before the eu referendum, I don't know why, I think it just came on Facebook.

I don't need know if they did well or not, haven't really looked since it started.

what platforms do you use? betting on stocks and shares seems a lot less risky and a lot less effort that trying to grow crops and livestock! with bugger all drilled... maybe I will just fallow it all and stick this years crop growing investment into other industries instead!

Be a bit careful with genus as regards the pig breeding. Yes, they are placed very well to profit from a rebuilding of the pig numbers but I think they’ll take a good kicking before it gets better.

Taking into account the fall from grace of Neil Woodford, i'd say it shows that even if the pro's
manage to FU it up, then you should proceed carefully.

Best bet they keep pumping out the Divi. Worst bet a hedge fund comes and buys them off you, loads it with Cayman debt until it goes bust.

Cheap money has fuelled shares being too dear for me.

Sorry - my mistake, it’s CGT, not IHT that there’s exemption from. I’d check with an accountant too, before committing.

Standard Life is all I have, some were given when they demutualised, some bought at a discount at the same time, they've done well enough to pay me back any investment over the years, so even if the company went to the wall I'm happy enough, they returm around 5% which is better rhan any bank or building society will offer.
