So how are they starting them, assuming they didnt get the keys?

used to play bowls with a chap who ran a garage looking after mainly middle age mercs.....the sort readily nicked and shipped to africa in containers....he once said of later models 'how the hell can they unlock the ignitions...because i can't'...i reckon those trucks are destined for africa:(

There was a spate of Transits being turned over around March of this year in local towns.

Apparently some arsehole was selling Ford 'master keys' on eBay, that fit both Transits and Rangers.

I can't believe that there is such a thing as a 'master key'. Especially not one that fits British and European built Transit and South African or Thai built Rangers.
Have you got a reference for such a thing that fits all or any of these vehicles and overcomes the immobiliser?

With a copied key (no key fob 'blipper') you can open the drivers door and disarm the alarm and immobiliser if the key is inserted in the ignition barrel within 4 seconds - I've done it.

As for the 'master key', that I don't know. That came from a mate with a transit, who knew 2 of the 6 van owners deprived of their tools on the same night. I can't vouch that it's 'a fact', it may be a rumour for all I know. But there wasn't an indication of 'forced entry' on any of them...

Doubt it. Have Ford fitted this to their pickups? Mine is just three years old and has a conventional key start.
Regardless of whether it has a keyless button start or not, it will certainly be fitted with a steering lock.

As nearly all their cars have it I assumed the ranger would be also on button, steering lock when engine off is just VERY stiff on mine... think its electric steering though.
