Stopping weaned calves jumping fences

Earlier in the year, I bought a batch of weaned calves out of a shed, I put them in a field with access to a shed and within 3 hours I had the police on the phone saying they were running down the road! I put a quiet heifer in with them and it's not been an issue. Next year we've got some extra ground, but there is no shed and I plan on buying another 30 of them. I'm a bit worried that they might jump the fences again and I won't have a spare heifer to put in with them.

Any suggestions?

We had some jumping out this spring. They only settled when we put a couple of geld cows and calves in with them. Not been out since, touching wood.

Put a stretch of electric fence in the shed to train them to it before weaning , and have a hot wire around fields where poss , only thing that we found they respected after years without electric fences .
