Appreciate we all farm in different circumstances and all farms have there own challenges. Had a chat at market with very differing views.
When buying in store lambs for the autumn / winter feeding what standard treatments do you use ?
Dip, worm, fluke, jab, bolus, foot bath, clip, fly treat etc.

Definitely worm, fluke, foot bath, rest depends on how long keep they are

In an ideal world dip them off the wagon, zolvix, fluke, multi vit bonus, foot bath every day for 3 days and a jab of ovivac … but depends on circumstances and the amount bought in 1 go..
Once the season gets going properly we tend too do all treatments on a Sunday. I’m home, the sheep have all arrived and had at least 1 day too settle. Big treatment and sort out every Sunday ready for me going Stirling on the Monday again. Just have too keep eye out for anything looking dull, 5ml Alamycin LA pronto

Just wondering what’s the 2ml alamycim for?
Smaller lambs, lambs that were wet when loaded/travelling. It’s too keep pneumonia at bay while they adjust too the new environment. The vet came too PD some heifers a couple of years ago and was watching us dosing some lambs that had just arrived. She nipped too her pick up and came back with the Alamycin LA and said they would need that. She explained why and it made sense so now anything I feel needs it will be treated. Our vet is a big believer in using the cheaper antibiotics at stress periods will reduce the need for stronger antibiotics further down the line when problems develop.

As a store lamb seller, we'll tell the auctioneer if they've been wormed, dipped or whatever recently and all our wethers are done twice with brovoxin 10. Just out of interest do you store buyers take any notice of this or still just carry on with your own treatment program?

I’m afraid I completely ignore everything and start them all on my program. While you are genuine and straight, some out there aren’t. They might have dipped the sheep. But the tight buggers neglected too actually tip any chemical into the bath! I find it safest just too start fresh. I will go an extra £1 for lambs that are sold as double jabbed though.

I bought ewes last year that the seller literally stood next too the auctioneer and said “these ewes were all dipped on Monday” … funnily enough a month later I was confirmed by the vet with scab 🤦‍♂️ Last time I take a sellers word for anything…

Yes I think if I was buying store lambs in I would have to use my own treatment policy, we'll still continue doing what we do though because theres probably store lamb buyers that try to cut corners and we want our lambs to be healthy and go on for the next man

Too many dishonest people in the sheep game. I know of People who say sheep are treated with this and that but know fine well that they haven't been, it spoils it for the rest of us. I suppose over time you learn who to trust

I personally wouldn’t pay attention to what certain lambs have had. I think it would be impossible for us to keep all the different groups separate here. One group ovivac once, one group twice, one group not at all, once group bravoxin etc etc. Last year we didn’t vaccinate anything, just wormer as they enter the shed. Lambs sent away on keep got worm/fluke, bolused, crutched, dipped and lame ones jabbed.

I wish all store lamb sellers would dip with op. I was talking to someone who had a good run at lazonby last year, the whole lot where bloom dipped, I said "So you have dipped with op then" "no" he said "because it spools the colour", if there was better statement for UK sheep farming than that, all that matters was what they looked like.
BTW I by small store and quite a lot of ewe lambs, they get dipped straight away and zolvix before they come out of the shed (house for 2 days). Hep P+ and footvax 2 weeks later and bolus.
