Trouble is when your in the magic circle , your only point of reference is the pen next door not fat lamb production , I was privileged to view one of these rams a while back , sold for a lot of money as a lamb , huge frame / bone , fcall meat on it as a shearling when not pampered , and these come from some at near the top of the breed pyramid , so offspring will filter all through the breed utterly undermining the good work others are doing

came across this on the nsa site when looking for something else ,Peter Babers presentation , have to say the weights are pretty well right on my rams records reared under a similar system , Builth sellers would laugh at you selling sheep of that weight
There are quite a few of us fundamentally doing just that, to varying degrees, I differ in that all my stock is registered and recorded, allowing me to participate fully in progeny testing ie Ram Compare and the Texel society meat trials plus genomic evaluations for health traits, also it fully bench marks our performance against others, I'm not a purest though, if an animal hasn't got anything to eat, you have to feed it something, where we really differ is that some are good at advertising and I'm crap.
