you got a proper switch over so it can supply your house electric board?

i just head leads in through door to stuff i needed!

think i will start looking at euro auctions for an old YEDL unit there not that much
No proper switch. Just plugged it into normal 3 pin plug. Powering up house though.

All schools shut in Aberdeenshire for next 2 days so obviously aren't expecting power to be restored soon.

Our power has been out since 5pm Friday, estimated that will be back by 6pm tonight, but not holding our breath, there’s a lot of damage.

Our house is old, draughty, inefficient
insulation, single glazed windows, heated by a mixture of oil and wood. Everything about it is a black mark regarding Net Zero.

However, in the absence of electricity, the only thing we are without is the tv. Solar garden lights charge up through the day, old gravity fed kerosene Esse heating the water, kitchen and does half a job at cooking. 2 log burners with a bit of imagination can operate as hot plates, grills and ovens. We’re fine.

Sister lives in a new build, top whack insulation, efficient boiler, storage heaters, but there’s no electricity so NOTHING works, no cooking, heating, washing.

If the storm hit during a period of sub zero temps, a lot of people would be in a bit of trouble as their entire infrastructure failed.

Is the negativity towards oil and now log burners as well, combined with the push towards heat pumps and renewable energy powered house entirely wise when an 8hr storm can turn it all off?
Could be worse could have electric car!!!

It had the drier wired into it and they said it was coming back on in 6 hours
That was 50 hours ago!!!
When I was initially offered a generator Saturday morning I turned it down! Nah power will be back on in a few hours.

By lunchtime Saturday thought about it a bit more and decided to take him up on his offer. Glad we did now watching TV and a few lights in. Fridge freezer staying frozen.

Strangely local town banchory has shortage of water. Electric pumps must pressurise system I guess.

Local swimming pool was letting people in for free showers, but it's ran out of water now too.

Couldn’t even leave the house unless the leccy car is charged.
Brings me to a story of back in the day when the electric was off at the house and at the potatoes. One of the towns men that was there to gather the potatoes said that’s it we may go home can’t gather any today…. dad said why? The townsman said sure the tractors won’t start with out the electric

Hopefully we have a few long cold winters - with mains power dropping - it'll make a few people wise up to the situation the UK is in.

And it'll have to be dire to get the fat blonde philanderer to wake his ideas up.
That’s nice idea . Be good for older people with health problems and for that matter anyone with health problems .Young family’s will be so looking forward to it to . Back to the 70s with power cuts - those were the days 👍👍👍

People who rely on boreholes for water. No electric = no pump = no water.
Power went off 3 times yesterday , no electric fence and can't even fuel the tractor because of welsh regulations making us have a fuel station.
No problem in the house, just keep putting a block in the burners and kettle on the top
