Storm Arwen vs Net Zero…..nature vs arrogance??

Power went off 3 times yesterday , no electric fence and can't even fuel the tractor because of welsh regulations making us have a fuel station.
No problem in the house, just keep putting a block in the burners and kettle on the top
Thats the trouble with fuel stations, allways seems like all the tractors are low on diesel when the leccy goes off and you need one on the genny

within living memory out in the countryside many people hardly ventured outside of their village, as others said back then, right up to the 1950s most villages, small county towns were self sufficent in peoples needs? well their needs were very modest?

4 days with no electric which is our only form of heating or any energy, a comlplete shambles it will be a disaster when everything is electric without major work on the electric distribution network. I personally cannot see it happening . They will need wires everywhyere . Has anyone worked out the requirement at peak times, reckon the wires will be glowing or losing volts. UNLESS WE CAN. GO WIRELSS

This is why people using common sense realise going all electric for the future can't work and the problem starts long before the power goes down the wire.
And to be fair no amount of upgrading of power lines is going to stop mother nature throwing a tantrum and blowing trees over and snapping poles off.
Would suggest if you live out in the sticks you consider some form of heat that requires no electric as it ain't getting any better. At least then you'll be able to have a Luke warm cuppa and some warm beans.

All new houses should be built with solar, wind power and plenty of battery storage (when it becomes more affordable).
These new builds which are slung up in ten minutes as cheap as possible are absolutely shocking, these big developers taking the pee.
and the planners and buildings regs twits are also to blame, stupid positioning, ugly, no space even to park one car easily let alone 2 or so that most modern families use. disgusting, all they are after is the fees and council tax.

12volt transfer pump out of top of tank
Yep have thought of that and we've got a pump here somewhere.
It just struck me on Saturday during one of the power cuts that I couldn't fill the tractor because some person with no sense decided I had to have a fuel station and become even more reliant on electric instead of using gravity

We were off 3pm Friday, and luckily back on yesterday afternoon, so 72hrs. I have various friends who are still without power, and no likelyhood of being back on till the weekend at best.
We have a 10kva tractor genny and a 2.5kva Honda petrol jobbie, so both farmhouses are covered. The petrol one wont handle the microwave or kettle but does heating, lights and telly.
Both houses have old oil Rayburns so really there was not much coming over us.

But I messed up spectacularly on Sunday night, the petrol genny ran out and I broke the cardinal rule and filled it up while still hot, pulled the cord and woof, massive fireball with a half full jerry can of super unleaded right beside it. Managed to pull the power lead and drag it away a bit and managed to get it out with some water pails, but shes fried, along with my jacket sleeve. Fire extinguisher was only yards away but forgot in the panic!
I got a big big scare I can tell you!!

So people be bloody careful with petrol and hot engines!!!

Yeah and we wont be allowed dirty diesel or petrol engines on generators you will have to have an electric powered generator :)
Oh hang on.... will that work?

Having been totally reliant on a small Petrol generator to power afew select items in the house and a log drive to keep the kids warm it’s actually frightening how near we could be to a total melt down of society , no oil = nothing. Local council was on fb today saying how a old couple had been given a small grant to buy an air source heat pump the catch was they had to physically remove the log burner to get the grant , so now they have no heat as the pump needs electric and it’s zero degrees so that’s no help - what a mess, at what point will people realised it’s not one peg fits all solution . Windy places turbines sunny places solar ect don’t try to force it on people.
