We have been insured with an outfit around here called Tynedale for many years, we had one claim in the last few years, a bullock broke its leg in a crush. The claim was about 15% of our premium.
They put a £1000 excess on all livestock claims so if a shed burnt down every beast had a £1000 excess. They seemed surprised when we moved.🤣

That’s awful. Whoever you insure with need a kick in the balls. Shower of cants !!😳
Had the insurance chap here a few days ago and it seems that plant in sheds isnt covered if the shed falls on it through storm damage nor is it covered for flood.
So not unusual
I am not to bothered as we don't have much but what I am more bothered about is the cattle are not covered if the shed falls on them, machinery is though,

Heavy snow falling in Northumberland electric fixes faulting everywhere - another night of cold in - temps , roads are shocking / pissing down wet slush snow , I’m a chipper person but f**k me it’s not easy to see the bright side at the moment
Quite a few, who had been told next Wednesday, came on yesterday afternoon.
Local pub rooms are still let to folk with no leccy, paid for by Npowergrid

Where abouts are you ?

Fair dollop of snow here considering the forecast said sleet & rain

Government spokesman tonight said no storm like this had been seen seen for 60 years.
Wonder where he was in 1987 then when we had winds of 115 mph here
We lost thousands of trees and power was off for a fortnight in Norfolk
That was when Sevenoaks in Kent became Oneoak 😉
Said Govt spokesman was probably not born then... aka, it never happened!

To me, a big mistake from the Northern Power Co's, is that there doesn't seem to be any use being made of Engineers and staff from the other power companies in the South, that wasn't affected anywher near as badly. Do they no longer help each other out in this brave world of private enterprise...?

As others have said, more use by private contractors for non-technical work would make sense, but H&S rearing it's head I suspect...

I heard of a tree that came down around 6pm effectively blocking part of a nearby council estate. The Council were snowed under and suggested they would have a look the next day...! Locals gathered around and all helped a couple of houesholders with chainsaws, and cleared the tree off the road in an hour or so, and the better timber taken away. Community in action (y)

This article was written on 1/12/21. As I speak (5/12/21) there are still thousand's of households up here without power.

Travelling home through Farnborough one evening years ago the road became blocked by a fallen tree. A lot of people got out of their cars and complained about the council not doing their job etc. Arriving home later that evening I noticed a long line of cut logs along the roadside near the house which hadn't been there in the morning. A tree had come down at 4pm and by 6pm had been cleared and chopped up by several neighbours with a note to help ourselves to the logs. :D
