Storm Arwen

Makes my blood boil when alot of the trees that have fallen blocking roads and snapped power lines etc should have been felled and cropped way before any storm . Short sighted councils etc just store up problems rather than be proactive . It will be the same with rivers , one day all the trees that are blocking them will destroy a bridge and flood a town before the EA realise perhaps they should of removed them
You mean all the trees they plant to stabilise the river banks 🙈

Hell. That’s bad. And sad.

I presume they are plantation softwoods (tiny screen)

Are there many native, natural hardwoods in the area and have they been flattened too?

Apologies, I’ve not spent much time in Northumberland, something I aim to change. 👍
I’ve not seen an aerial photo bunt seen from the ground some of the devastation in hulne park at Alnwick, 100s of mature hardwoods and probably 1000s of softwoods uprooted or snapped like matchsticks

Maybe I haven't had TV or radio on at the right times, but the 6 O'clock News, and WatO today gave some indication of conditions where the Storm struck hard. Cyberchums elseforum said the emergency plans weren't communicated anywhere near rapidly enough where they live in Scotland despite the Red Warning. There were misunderstandings, and the local community coordinators couldn't act in time.

NPG too busy to come to make wires safe that are 1m from the floor across the yard.
Mind you, if one did turn up they'd probably just pull the fuse and leave us in the dark.
Today I had a helper so we re-attatched the bracket to the house with 12mm threaded bar through the wall rather than the M10 rawlbolts.
Blue poly (bt) rope onto the wires and they are now 3m above the ground.
Enough for people and cars to be safe.
Where do I send the bill for callout and 4 hrs (minimum) x 2 bodgineers with 100 years experience between us?

Found out this morning that a second home owner in the village can't get back to where his main home is because his electric car battery is flat, which is stuck in his garage because his electric garage door can't be opened manually and he also has no water because his hi tech water filtration system needs electric to work the pump ! Hahahaha 🤣
Must be complete twit as the garage doors have to be openable normally by pulling a small cable inside
