Storm Arwen

Electric still off here, apparently it won't be fixed until Wednesday at the earliest so said the engineer that was here assessing the lines today, going to have to reroute the original line slightly as can't put new poles in safely where they were originally !
Very sorry to hear that, you'll have seen from my earlier posts you can't trust what they say and you have to shout loud to get attention. Hope you're on earlier, why can't they give you a generator or a temporary supply from the original line?
If you're arguing with them the health and safety card seems to work the best

We're all rigged up with Genny's for the houses, we have them already as quite used to power cuts, we'll have a big claim into them for fuel for them tho, hopefully they will be in the area tomorrow as they have been nearby in the last couple of days

Yes and according to the great and the good we should be going 100% electric. We're led by donkeys.

Apologies to the donkeys
A lot of reporting I’ve seen the shows electric posts in very bad order, this is the very infrastructure that is supposedly going to take us forward in the all electric age.
Supports my thoughts that the UK’s electric network is not capable of more demand. !!

Talking with some people from Nottingham this morning. When I said we had no power they said "Oh were you affected by the storm there"

If this had been in the south it would have been declared a national emergency.
Plenty of folk on here go on about the great storm of 1987, as far as we were concerned it wasn't much and don't know what the fuss was about. Quite understandable if you weren't affected to not grasp the severity of these events.

As i`ve mentioned on here before on my regular trips into the toon with the milk van I have found it is a waste of time talking about the weather. The urban dwellers have no concept of the effect the weather has once you get beyond the street lights.
The alarming thing is these are the same people sitting in their comfortable offices who think we should do away with petrol & diesel.
Imagine dealing with a situation like last weekend when the leccy vehicles all have flat batteries

Noticed a number of old curved roof haysheds seem to have had a hammering . Roller shutter doors facing the wind seems another victim.

Lots of rotten ash snaped off. Individual trees tipped over. Had to cut up a lovely sound oak to get the road open. Then acres of pine plantations wrecked as in the above pic.

1st time I can remember a red weather warning for this area, now we know what it means :(. Must be similar in strength to the Michael Fish storm that went along the southern counties in 1987
My grain store door blew in :( loads of trees down luckily missed anything important.

Was the 87 storm a national emergency ?
we were without power for a week, on the end of a line here and the wires were down just up the road, just got on with it really, milked the cows with the vac pump driven off the tractor, rigged up a light in the parlor off the tractor battery, the milk wasn't cooled but they took it, rayburn in house for heat and cooking, candles for light, don't remember making a fuss or any claim for anything, not much fun but stuff like this happens and it will happen again

Fair but we do live in a different world now. And I bet they wouldn’t take that milk nowerdays

This is the only thing that has kept us going. In reality out the house would be unlivable as small generator struggle with heaters as it’s to much juice , not many uk homes have a working fireplace I bet it a shed full of coal ;)
