Lot of the poles about that were put in when the big push to get leccy to rural areas in the 50s & 60s. Seriously undersized to current spec.
They took our single phase line down in 2015 when we moved onto 3 phase. Apart from replacements for the 2 that had broken in the last couple of years, they were all put up in 1955 when fr in law succeeded in getting leccy to the village.

When they took down the end ones with decent bracing wires, all the rest just fell down - they were completely rotten at soil level.

87 A disaster you say, well a disaster is exactly what has happen up north it’s just a shame it’s to far to be noticed much . Still can’t figure out why they sent the army or what they are actually doing … anyone enlighten me?
My news programme showed a few soldiers driving about giving out blankets, camping stoves and torches but not sure what else they've been asked to do.
Can't be too many soldiers available though as my mrs said a handsome soldier gave her Covid jag last week.

The engineers replacing poles round here wére asked how deep they were. They said 1 meter but they should be at least 1.5 meters

Tell you what tho I have filled the petrol generator several times whilst running , I really think I’m pushing my luck that there’s not been an accident , i wince like a pr*ck every time I do it
I think you know what needs to be done.....

Stop and cool that genny down, too bloody late when it's caught fire and you are heading for A&E.

Or buy a diesel...

Bloody hell, that`s shite.
Where are you
Leccy company not offering a genny or anything
Local pub would make most of their money this weekend from folk getting subbed by NPowergrid
BBC reporting 1300 homes still off with NP, all their customers back on tomorrow... then goes on to say that this is weather dependent!

Everyone else....?? is back on now.

End of last week local hire company in Hexham were providing gennys,& copious amounts of fuel, sending an electrician ahead to sort the wiring.
All to be invoiced to NPowergrid.
Seems they had been willing to do it early last week, but took far to long to get assurances that the power company would pay

Does any one know what sort of cost is involved in getting a proper change switch over wired up so you can plug a Genny in , ours is just single phase set up

I was in a house the other day where they put a normal 3 pin socket on the genny and they plugged it into the oven outlet on the wall (as that’s thicker cable) and it powered the whole house and the fuse box shut off so it didn’t put power into the grid

Depends on your setup but If you just have a single phase supply a switch is about £100. 32 amp socket maybe £20 plus max 2 hours electricians time.
3 phase will be more.
Plugging in as mentioned in @michael N123 post is risky. Maybe even illegal. What if someone forgets to knock off the main switch and power goes up the line and someone is up a pole & gets electrocuted
