Is this the one from South Africa? So bad that South Africa does not appear on most of the growth of the virus charts?
Is this the one that is so deadly we are allowing people in for the next few days?
Is this the one that we will then be surprised when we get cases?
Ah yes but we are lucky enough to have a government that tells us that it learns from it's mistakes, trouble is it just cannot keep up with them as they come so thick & fast!!

I'm not sure if anyone has stated on how effective existing vaccines are against this variant. However, mRNA vaccines can be rapidly adapted to given efficacy against new strains as they emerge.
Although vaccines can be adapted reasonably quickly it takes a long time before they are approved for use, which unfortunately is likely to be too late for some.

I'm not sure vaccines need to be totally re-approved if it is the exact same vaccine but aimed at differing strains. The annual flu jab normally contains 3 different strains which change from time to time and I'm not certain full reapproval is needed for these each time.

If they say two vaccines and a booster is not enough to stop it then that will destroy any credence in the vaccination programme. Most if not all in this country have been exposed to the virus so have some immunity (shown to be far more effective than vaccines), we will have to rely on this.

FFS... :banghead: It's not about 'stopping' the virus / new mutant getting here, virtually impossible nowadays.

It is about reducing the numbers of it here early-on and so its spread as much as we reasonably can, this to allow study of it and any other preparation that seems sensible in the time gained.

New variant is probably already here 😰😰 I'm just a bit fed up regarding covid after 20 months
It is what it is, just another pain to be lived with; no great drama for the vast majority if we act sensibly. (y)
