While here, has anyone tried a Trek Domaine SL6 bike. Am seriously considering one , for its wider forks. I want wider tyres so I can tow my grandson starting off road
No but I have a 2015 version of this bought to replace my winter bike and ride it all year now. went for a slightly smaller frame for handling off road but still perfectly comfortable after 5 or more hours continuous riding.

As for bikes Mrs MTX, a halfords store will show you the range of Boardman bikes available they are usually good value for money I commute on Cx that's a great bike as it's halfway between road and mTB but can also take road tyres. However the pain is buying from a halfords as their branches differ immensely in customer service standard.

Another one to look at is Ribble cycles they have a bike builder app and you can pick the frame and then alter pretty much every component on the bike and it's very good value for money. You can usually get a good bike with better quality components for the same money as off the peg bikes. Trouble with ribble is they have 3 shops Cardiff, Brum and the head office in Preston I think.

One tip would be look at your cycling club not necessarily to clad yourself in lycra and join a chain gang but often there is a serious cyclist or 3 that know a lot about bike fit and can point you in the direction of the right size etc.

As for clip in pedals they are great once you get the hang of them and most now are adjustable.so.u can start with the.slightest foot movement unclip them and then as you get used to them can be tighten up until only a specific movement unclip them.

Yeh, let's all beat up on the species called Dog Walkers.
There may be inconsiderate, selfish and a bit stupid varieties but most are looking after their pets and getting some exercise.
My daughter is a professional dog walker. She provides a good, honest service see here site Dog Walkers Sale

That ad was kind of shoe horned in Harry. I personally am very much of the live and let live code. I realised a long time ago there are saints and b@stards in all walks of life. You can't really label them by what they do, race, religion or any other perceived difference. Empathy is the future.

Thank you (y)
Our local Halfords is useless, they sold me my mountain bike and the seat to go on the front for Rhys to sit in.
They kindly built it and put the seat on so off I went to pick it up all excited to find the seat was definitely not compatible, where his foot rests were, stopped me turning the handle bars :cautious: they could not see the problem :stop:

I've made a few cycling buddies locally and they've all agreed the giant liv is right for me, not to hard core for now but competitive enough if I want to do duathlons.
Hopefully picking it up tomorrow :nailbiting:

Hopefully I'll be spaming all of your Stravas with me slow short little rides

Don't worry about slow, i have only been back on a bike 12 months after a 20 year break i was absolutely shocking last summer! But strava is a great tool for improving but be warned it gets very very addictive! I was out at 7am on boxing day morning in minus tempretures as i had a milage goal for tgat week, that and i needed a break before day two with the inlaws!

I've got very competitive with my running on Strava
Mainly with myself and it's really helped me improve pace but it does make you go a bit crazy when you don't reach your weekly mileage :sneaky:

That was one of Cycling Plus bikes of the year, should be very good.
Some advice to beginners, buy a proper pair of shorts, and "bib" ones at that. You may feel a bit odd at first but it'll be kinder to your backside!

I have Assos bib shorts and DHB bib longs. Both are brilliant IMO also this is useful but dairy folk will be able to acquire a cheaper alternative.

I was supposed to pick up my new bike yesterday (y)

2 visits to the shop and no sales people acknowledging me, I left with no bike :(

I had all ready had contact with them by email to make sure it was in stock and said I'd be collecting so I emailed them saying not to bother and no sale :sneaky:

They are now delivering it tomorrow with 20% off the original price :D

Anyway what are people's thoughts on this bike?
IMG_4460.JPG
It's for sale locally for £125? It would be for my dad who's worried about me out cycling on my own

He would not be competitive and just something to come out with me when he's not working? He currently doesn't have a bike so he'd have nothing to compare it with?
Is it ok price wise?

I know you've all said about bike fits and makes etc but this is not something he'll stick to long term  he doesn't even have Strava

Should be a reasonable bike for a starter. As long as it fits reasonably, perhaps you could find a bike fitter locally who would get him in the proper position, it makes a world of difference. Who knows in 6 months he will be looking to upgrade to the full carbon D1.2
