From the amount of people I’ve seen who pulled out of ride London who have more more experience than me, im pretty glad I jibbed before paying :sneaky:

Such a shame after the last couple of months of weather, i know someone riding today, they had to take the two diversions that shorten the route due to accidents. In some respects i really want to ride the event but in others I would be so bloody angry if I went to all the effort of traveling to be forced down a shortcut because of an accident, and end up potentially doing less miles than i would on a normal sunday!

Yes exactly it’s a lot of money for travelling, hotels etc if you don’t get to finish what you achieve, the marathon was months of training in the rain and snow and then on the day was 27 degrees which ruined my pace plan but at least I could finish safely. This is a different level

Its so difficult with bikes as there is more risks of people loosing control etc particularly on the descents. And then there is the big reason for shortcuts to get the riff raff off the streets for the pro race in the afternoon that brings in the TV money!

I would be far more inclined to enter if you got your start time before you pay. There is a good chance if you get the early slots it will be trouble free. Later the start more problems there are. I reckon it would cost me £500 in expenses to do it. That would buy me two seasons of local sportives entry! Seriously considering velobirmingham next year instead.

Help!
I have a new watch and there’s things I can’t figure out! The instructions are pathetic!

I’ve upgraded my tomtom runner to a vivoactive hr.
1. How do I turn on auto pause?
2. Is it ok to swim as it is or do I need to do anything to protect it?
3. The date is set up right but my ride today linked to Strava as 5/2/18, what am I doing wrong?

Also some bike help!
My gears today are not sitting right in top, like making a noise until I go back down the gears? Is this something I can sort or shall I take it to hospital?

Planning on aiming to do 40 ish miles tomorrow, max I’ve done is 35, but legs felt empty by the end, I’ve been doing lots of strengthening, running etc, any tips on fueling? I think I’m leaving it too late before eating?

I think so! Eat something every 45 minutes. Cereal bars are far cheaper than sports bars and just as effective.

I twigged with the cereal bars when I was marathon training :sneaky::smug: ah ye I’m going over an hour before eating anything, how often should I drink? I’m rubbish at drinking enough!

Drink little and often before you are thirsty. It’s actually quite hard to carry enough liquid so a cafe stop is good! If your not doing that finish your drinks before the end you can go quite well dehydrated!
Personally I eat anything except chocolate but do drink the electrolyte energy drink.

Thank you (y) I have actually scheduled in a cake and tea stop
I used tail wind for my marathon training but at the moment can’t imagine stomaching the stuff  maybe in a few months! I hate gels so hoping to just get by with cereal bars and squash for now! I don’t think I’ll be doing much longer distances for Some time!

This, it really helps to combat cramp. I tend to just use jelly babies but have been told bt hard core Audaxers to leave them till the end but these boys and girls do serious miles.

Funny how everyone has there own formula. Fudge junior will eat nothing but energy bars but drinks anything. When he’s training he rides his tt bike @ 28mph!! Way beyond anything I could attempt.
