That’s my thought, I want him to enjoy it and be happy so I’d rather spend more. I would 100% be interested in buying that! From my research the hoy and frog are just as good but the Isla seems that little bit better for the smaller rider. I joined the selling page on Facebook but everyone seems to want the same as me :meh:

The wife has already sold it I’m afraid @mrs mtx. Got £300 for it and could of sold it a few times over at that price.

Its seems to be a sellers market at the moment with the current situation... Isla have pretty much sold out of all new bikes until June. If you can hold off a few months you might find a few more deals.

They are but I know someone who has one and its ok. Spec is good.

I have never looked at the specs of Wiggins, simply because having owned a pair of Boardman's purchased from our local Halfords and the following 18months of hassle and misery that followed made me vow never to spend another pound with them the Boardman's were on the whole good bikes but the back up, support and incompetence of mechanics to fix even the most basic of warranty issues , i am sure there are some good local stores with exceptional mechanics but ours is terrible and I have read lots of similar stories on cycling pages.

I was also never quite sure how much Wiggins himself influenced the bikes? Chris Hoy has made it part of his career to be involved with the design & support of the Hoy brand, likewise Chris Boardman spent a lot of time involved in developing the bikes in the ranges its understandable why he chose to market through Halfords but it is a downside. I have never seen Bradley Wiggins marketing/supporting his brand writing articles and making the online tutorials like Hoy has for the kids, it made me wonder if he just accepts a cheque to have his name put on halfords bikes? If the spec of wiggins is good and the price is right i suppose there is also the option of having it supported by the local bike shop.

I would never trust Halfords near any of my bikes, find a good local bike shop for repairs and service

I am great believer in the good local bike shop theory, sadly many are not as the internet is cheaper, from experience i have found if you are straight with them they are return the favour. I have on a few occasions asked them for prices on groupsets and the like and they cannot get anywhere near on price mainly because the online giants sell it for less than the LBS can get it off their supplier at that point they always tell me to by online and the will fit. Like wise on smaller purchases if they are 10 quid dearer say on a 100pound purchase i buy it off them as its worth it in the long run. A local bike shop is a valuable asset to a keen cyclist but its a two way street you be fair and good with them they will look after you very well.

No worries! I can get a new one for £399 but like you said they are out of stock until June! His birthday is the 15th of June so we’ll just see if I find one online first. A lot seem to not want to has couriers :X3: I think I have my heart set on an isla now. They seem to have the smallest frames with the 20 inch wheels and have amazing write ups. I can’t find anything negative about the others but the frames are bigger

Our local bike shop is so hit and miss depending on who serves you. I went in about my first road bike and had great experience. Went in a week or so later to pay and it was like I was invisible in the shop and just annoying the guy. I walked outside and emailed the owner explaining why I won’t be purchasing. He then delivered it to me with £200 off ? I had excellent service off them when I bought my mountain bike and the pull along behind for Rhys but we’re useless servicing and sorting out my road bike. I’ve now found a guy that loves further away but is amazing fixing and servicing! I’d rather travel and pay more and know it’s done right

Your not alone, there is a local bike shop less than half a mile from my front door, but i walk, drive or pedal straight past it to one on the other side of town any shop is only as good as its staff that represent it. Even though all shops should have a mechanic that is competent in all disciplines they sell many don't but like many people you have found someone you can trust, my dad always used a man working out of his garage in his garden for servicing and repairs.

I have been doing a bit more research on the isla's i have an eye on one of their old trailer bikes for my niece, i don't think you will be disappointed and with your localish man for servicing its all good stuff.

Its worth noting that once the new bike arrives and some miles are under its wheels the rear gears may need a tweak, to save you loading it up and taking it to your local man, go on Youtube and search GCN gears, GCN have lots of video tutorials it really is not hard to tune the gears especially on a kids bike that's single speed at the front.

I have learnt a lot from GCN tutorials, i do 90% of my maintenance now, but still haven't the bottle to replace a press fit bottom bracket in a carbon frame!

What are people’s opinions on this? It’s the model I want, £400 new. The guy will courier it for £20 extra? Is there anything I need to ask? @stellify what’s your thoughts

How much is it i am perhaps being blind but can't see? If its a sensible price buy it and have the local man service it. 20quid courier is reasonable there are a few on eBay between £17-20 courier

Sorry  it’s £230 then courier on top so I think reasonable

250 delivered, not sure what a service would cost you from your local man but i would say its worth it you could still be 100 cheaper than new and when your little man needs a bigger one i bet you could get 200 back again.

I would ask how old it is first... I learnt that lesson with our first second hand purchase!

It looks like an older model to me - you can usually tell by the seat, the older ones have a chunkier seat with a grey edging. These are heavier bikes and they don’t have the nice small brake levers, pedal cranks, etc like the newer models.

I’m no expert but this bike could be 8+ years old, maybe more. I would say £230 would be plenty if it’s the old model.

There’s some useful info here if you haven’t already seen it: https://www.islabikes.co.uk/knowledge/why-islabikes/islabikes-celebrating-decade-innovation/

Thank you, I have actually emailed Isla to check with them as I haven’t seen any grey ones before! I messaged to ask him how old it is and he hasn’t replied! Maybe that’s my answer
