Strava cyclists TFF

You will laugh........when I bought my first clipless pedals I was home alone. I spent a hour or so with my bike in the kitchen, leaning against the units I practiced clipping in and out. I’m sure it helped when I went outside

Bg

Yea I'm thinking I might have to do the same. Guaranteed if I fall off round here there WILL be a car around, and it WILL be someone I know

Cleats and pedals arrived today. So had a ride around in the yard for half an hour clipping and unclipping. Got the hang of it so went out on an 18 miler to test them out. Have to say I'm impressed with clipless, went up a couple of decent climbs, and if you stand up in the drops they are miles more efficient than my trusty skate shoes.

It was abit of a mind bender remembering to unclip though, especially in our tight country lanes with a car coming towards me. Impressed though

After a while you'll not even think about them and clipping in will come second nature, like...erm...riding a bike.
Incedentally which foot do folks unclip first?
Right foot for me, most of my cycling mates however seem to be lefties...

I always unclip my foot first. At your Dads funeral his cycling colleagues from school road with the Hearse, I joined them on my dads bike, I never gave it a thought we used the same style of pedals. I was invited o lead the cyclists so off I went down the road swung into the church drive under the arch with about 300 people watching I then realised dad's left pedal was incredibly hard to unclip the language in my head was not for a churchyard! I managed to unclip and come to a rest vertically just. Yep the right foot would have popped out easily. Dam sure Dad would have enjoyed watching me trying to keep my composure!

What are people’s view on tacx flow smart turbo?
I got a promotion in work today so have to increase my hours meaning I’ll get less time on my bike whilst rhys is in school, I have a basic turbo but I find it dull when I have no idea what I’ve actually done on it. Looking at zwift and this is one of the cheapest smart turbos I could find?

I’ve asked my neighbour and his was £799 from wahoo

Mine is an Elite Qubo Smart B, did a quick search and it seems to be unavailable so I wonder if yours is a replacement model. I paid about £300 a couple of years ago. It works well I just clip the bike in and go, I only use it with Zwift which I have on my ipad. The elite transmits with bluetooth, it and zwift also connect with my speed, cadence and heart rate sensors first time. With a smart trainer you dont have to use the sensors but I think you get better readings if you use a heart rate, they are not very expensive.

I have had issues with zwift making me slower than I thought I should be, I think its a combination of it taking time to assess my ability, and me perhaps choosing the wrong routes. A friend of mine suggested calibrating the trainer, but this cant be done without a power meter with mine. I am just used to how I seem to be riding on zwift and leave it at that. I think with the tacx trainers there is an easier way of setting the power. When I first had it this really bothered me but I dont take any notice now.

Spend some money on a cheap fan you will get very hot and trainers dont do tyres any good. You can get specific ones, and some people just run a trainer tyre or old tyre on a different rear wheel. Ive not done this yet.

I would look at a direct drive smart turbo. Saves you having to put a turbo tyre on your back wheel and they can be almost silent. I was sprinting every 5k on ours the other afternoon while little un slept thru it. The kickr core is very good we also have the cheapest tacx direct drive smart trainer and it has proved very good. Dmart trainer and zwift is a whole different ball game to conventional turbo

Do you have any links? My brain is fried  :ROFLMAO: Am I right in thinking direct drive you take your wheel off and just attach?

I upgraded to the wahoo kickr but thats seriously daft money I have heard very good things about the Kickr core

Benefit of direct drive just take your rear wheel out and put bike on, nice day come along and you want to head up the road 5 mins sees the wheel back in and your away. Conventional turbo you either need two back wheels one with normal tyre and one with turbo tyre or you literally into changing tyres

She likes it though doesn't get on it enough with a teething baby! I rode 1000km on the tacx during April when coving first struck it is very capable I hated trainers prior to this one as I found them boring. Should I have bought the dearest Kickr nope I should have bought the core really as it is allegedly just as good with a couple less features. As others have said you will need a fan, a remote controlled one is handy as it can be chilly during warm up and down.
