I’ve booked my first 100 mile sportif :smug: :nailbiting: I can do 40-50 miles now quite comfortably. I run/strength/cycle etc at least 4 times a week. It’s not until July. Should I follow a specific training plan or just build up distance slowly?

That will be fun. I did ride London a couple of years ago, mainly I kept increasing my distance each week or so. The biggest ride I did beforehand was 84 miles which with
poor route planning was tougher than London.
If you look on Zwift training plans there is PRL 100 which is I think a 16 week plan to train for the 100. I did a few of these but as the weather got better being outside was more fun.

There are converters online to compare chainsets l. How old is he maybe an e bike would be a good idea

Would the 11/30 be much difference to my 11/32 for hills?

If your going to H/west you may as well check out Bierspool and Enterprise as well.

Bierspool gave me a great quote on an Orbea two years ago which I should have but didn't take them up on. Mikes B also do Cannodale now as well as Giant and Enterprise do Specialized.

TCR is quite racy, the Defy not so much apparently. I'd quite fancy a racy one though now (bike that is!).

They'll surely all be £2-2500 by now

TBF these bikes are pretty pricey, I would hope the retailer would set you up with the gearing you want if you are paying full price! That probably won’t apply to an internet bargain though.
I think a 32 cassette will work if the rear mech can handle a 30. The difference between a 30 and 32 is marginal but I think I would have a 32 in Wales! I haven’t read all the specs of the bikes I posted links to, so check the size of the chain rings as well. I guess the defy models will have 50/34 on the front whilst the TCR may have 52/36 which is obviously a higher gear. Again those can be changed but that’s more money than a cassette, if money is no object you can have any gear on any bike!!⚙️⚙️⚙️££££

There’s no way im sending him to M
Bikes  His current giant is from there and its nothing what he wanted.
I think they had it stock to sell and bombarded him with details that he had no idea about, it’s only 18 months old and it’s had no end of problems.
They tell him it will be covered under warranty and then ‘find’ things that need doing not under warranty as well!
Mine was £2000 but I got really good nhs discount online so I’m happy to do something like that again or at least have specs and details in my head when I take him in a shop:LOL::facepalm:
