One could always put a towel over the handle bars. That does work. My headset bearings need replacement ATM but they are 3 years old. I don’t consider that too bad.
One does put a towel over the bars! :p
When you change your headset bearings, cover them and the inside of your forks in waterpump grease. Did that the last time I changed them on my winter bike, it's doubled the life of the bearings!

Ok I surrender £2k on a dedicated trainer is money well spent. As for the charge of inconsistent bike maintenance I’m afraid guilty is the plea. 😁

Think I paid £1500 for mine- in March 2019. Had it replaced under warranty in March 2021, just before the two year warranty came to an end- due to corrosion on the frame...

Can't find a second hand one for less than £1200- which to me is decent value- not many bikes cost £100/yr. Am tempted to part ex it, but new ones have increased to the £2K you mention. It's had more use than any other bike I've got- but at the time of purchase, it was by some way the most expensive bike I'd ever bought.

I’ve never tried proper racing, only TTs. I need to give it a go when I’m a bit fitter.

The racing is the best thing for fitness. Find a big enough race and there's always someone to compete with. And it's not as if there's an embarrassment factor. (although in one cat D racing league I raced in, I finished second, to an eleven year old...)

2nd is pretty good in any zwift race! Don’t get me wrong I do see the advantages of a dedicated indoor bike. Going by the cyclist hating threads on here we’ll soon all have one.

It was in a league season- a regular race every Monday night- over 9 weeks- had to race in a minimum of 7 to qualify for the league positioning, which was totalled up on the zwiftpower website.

My placings in the actual races would have been below 2nd in all of them from memory- but Zwiftpower removed anyone who's racing out of category from the results- so there's no cat C/B riders looking for an easy result racing where they shouldn't be.

Great Boxing Day ride today. Good weather I dressed expecting it colder. Did a tidy 40 miles, need to start getting fit for Ride London in May😁

Roads were quiet, a few cyclists out and lots of walkers.

Yes I did a fair bit of research before doing the deed. The Wahoo just seemed to tick more boxes imo. The Wahoo App for the bike is fantastic ie: bike set up, gear ratios, even brand selection, Campagnolo, Sram, Shimano etc.
Gear changing is seamless, just like on the real thing if that makes sense...
It's a fab bit of kit, not cheap I understand but if cycling is your bag then go for it!
In the end I went slightly left field and have just taken delivery of the Stages bike. I found a deal too good to refuse and plenty of reviews put it above the Tacx and not far off the Wahoo.

Which model Pinarello is that one ?

It’s a Prince, although Mrs Bg calls it The Mistress. I’m never going to be able to afford an Italian super car but I could this.

endurance frame and really comfortable. Full ultegra mechanical, compact chainset 11-32 cassette. Fulcrum racing 00 wheels (alloy). 28 mm tyres.

It is great, the colour is fantastic everyone has black bikes now so it stands out. I love the fully hidden cables, the aero handle bars are good. It started out tubeless but I had 3 puncture day in the autumn and it has tubes now. I keep thinking of going back with different tyres.

Wheel upgrade is next but I’d like a winter bike so that may come 1st. It wasn’t cheap but not that far from similar spec Specialized, Trek etc. My bike shop is doing a steady trade selling the F model you would need £12k for one of them and a more bendy back than I have.

Came from Pronto bikes in Frome ,if anyone is in the area it’s worth a visit , good coffee and cake 😁

Doing ride London on it in a couple of weeks, need to put some more training miles in.

When you had tubeless tyres could you detect any advantage on a road bike? Personally I think they are more prone to puncturing without any discernible advantages.
