Any trips from the pros would be appreciated! Fitness wise, I'm not struggling at all, getting sore knees though, wondering if the seat position is wrong? I'm just in hiking trainers, what part of your feet should be on the pedals? Should your legs straighten completely when pedals down? Yes I am a complete novice!!
Good shoes, the flat part of your sole on the pedal, leg just bent not totally straight, seat should be level but you can move it forward or back, fitness comes with use same as anything really, tyres right pressure all helps

I was always told ball of the foot over the pedal axle, that would be with cleats but I guess it’s the same principle.
Probably too late for you @Big_D but it may be worth looking at mountain bike pedals and cleats in the future, easy to walk and makes peddling much more efficient

I’m off to read your thread now 😁

Generally a good bike. How much gravel? Could consider the revolt if you’re doing a fair bit off tarmac. If you go with a Defy you would probably want to swap the tyres if you’re off road.
