thinking about getting a round bale straw chopper/spreader with a swivel spout,
As compact as possible, linkage mounted I would think,
need to throw it 3o to 40 foot,
not to much money but not sure how much is to much LOL
what would be best ?

I have a teagle 4040 for the cubicles which has been good but no swivel spout so no good for the other sheds

For me pick one in the best condition at a price you can afford.
I’m not a fan of Teagle but you’ve obviously got in with the one you have.
Most of the European made machines are built like tanks though.

Can you not get a swivel spout to fit what you have?

Had a mounted teagle here for years, the new ones were to heavy for the 66, tried a Kuhn primor mounted, has been here for 7 years doing cubicles calf pens and 40 foot beef sheds. Will only throw 40ish feet on the left side though, only weighs just over a ton, and is very compact on the back of 2wd Ford.

I demo’d a mounted straw chopper before buying a trailed, the demo convinced me that mounted wasn’t the way to go, a mounted with the tailgate down is like trying to negotiate a tractor and plough around the yard, it sticks out a long way so there’s a lot of tail swing, there’s also quite a bit of weight out back so needs weight/a decent size tractor up front. Can’t rember exactly what I did have on demo, it was a west Mac I think and was put on a MF6150 4wd and made that light front ended without weights .
That was back in 2000, ended up buying a KV832 trailed with a side arm spout as it was cheaper which could be run on a smaller 2wd.
Upgraded to a teagle with a swivel spout a few years ago, swivel spout is better fir two reasons, first the opening is much bigger so far less prone to blocking and as it doesn’t stick out doesn’t get knocked although the swivel spout is quite high so have to remember to lower it before entering and exiting lower sheds, a trailed teagle with the spout up will be higher than the cab on a 6270 for example.
In All honesty I think the KV was better built but I bought the Teagle 8550 as it had the ability to chop straw short

What about these Lucus Raptor's, what are they like ? see a fair few around
think I will need a mounted as will have to reverse in.

we have a trailed McHale, surprisingly good around the yard, narrow wheel base makes it good around corners etc, nothing wrong with the Kuhn either.
Only thing I don't like about the McHale is the paddles are welded on the flywheel so if a nasty foreign object gets in ,it turns into a far bigger, more expensive job than a Kuhn where they are just bolt on
