What solutions have folks used? Or do you just not worry about it?

Can't get in sheds with spread-a-bale type machine, so stuck to using a blower along feed passage.

Just angle the spout down a bit as you pass the water trough.
For any that does go in use one of these every few weeks;)

I use the things on the ends of my arms. They’re pretty handy. Straw floats on the water for a bit so its easy to scoop it off

even better: tatty fork.

or one of those floppy tools they clean horses out with but it might need a decent handle on it first.

A fine sieve of some sort seems to be the suggestion.

Thanks everyone. Some good ideas...

  • Lids
  • Sieve floating straw dust off top of water
  • Smaller water troughs
Next problem is stopping dust getting through Yorkshire boarding, and critically, covering Mrs Grass And Grain's car o_O. She hasn't noticed yet - dry windy days have blown the dust off. Not looking forward to car covered in condensation, and straw stuck on like Papier mache.
