Straw per ton 2020

Value when? Harvest time straight off the field.....or in the middle or end of what might be a short or long winter.

I think all forage will be short this year. One of the few years that we have glorious hay making weather and the price won't fall like a stone.

Location, location. Hard to say until the usual bunfight at the standing straw auctions begins. I can see it being 25% higher than last year. I wouldn't want to be a livestock farmer this summer! Fodder and straw dearer but feed imports will be cheaper if the tariff wall comes down as proposed.

Too early to say. Another 2 weeks of dry weather, and there won't be any straw at all. Then, what will harvest be like ? Clean sweep, or soggy mess ?
Still hanging on here, but burning up in patches. If the rest of the field follows suit......
Never got more than £80 / ton yet. Even in "good " years. It'll be £100 / ton this year, or I'm chopping it. P & K disappearing fast, and fert ain't getting any cheaper. SB fairing better than SW ATM.

I think this winter may well see barley straw breaking £200 a ton delivered but I wouldn’t like to say how far by and thank goodness I am mainly sand?

It will hold up following operations especially if it gets wet & the balers won't pick it up if really beaten up by rotary combines and has no length.

A lot of mixed farmers like ourselves won’t have hardly any surplus to sell this year as already mentioned never seen crops so short and we are going to be desperately short of forage for our cattle .
In a previous thread I mentioned a month ago if I got 3 t of wheat an acre I would be a happy man looking at crops now I’ll be ecstatic with 2 t/ac
Generally a ton of wheat produces 3 round bales of straw.
