Straw swath roller

@DrDunc I’d have thought a man of your engineering background could come up with something a little more refined than a 45 gal drum...?!

But there again you are Scottish and it was cheap...!

Buy a decent tractor on tall tyres with good clearance under the hitch. I've been baling behind 35 and 40ft combines this year with my TM155 on 520/85/38 tyres with no swath rollers bags or anything. Had no issues.

And drive against the direction of the combine.

Baling behind a 40ft 780 Lexion on Tues with the TM, no bother at all unless you went up the row same direction as it was cut. Balled up like hell then.

No bother for me baling behind a 35ft lex. TM155 took it in its stride an McHale V660 just gobbled it up. Did slow down a bit to give it a chance though. Only doing 11k in B5:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:Normally flying along at 14k behind the 25ft fergie combine i follow.

Pah, you must be following a straw walker. Krone comprima v150 pulled by the wee Deutz was 21kph behind a 34ft axial flow today averaging 64 bales per hour :p (yes it was a horribly light crop).

Compared to a straw walker, the straw today was also pre chopped and pre compressed by the nightmare combine :cry::cry:

A McHale v660 would have really struggled to pick it up, the reel just doesn't turn fast enough for the job.

The ground clearance of the TM will be near enough the same as my wee Deutz on its 520/70r38's. It's the balls deep row of hay that doesn't slide under that needs the swath roller, not the size of the tractor :D

I had to go do a contract job for a chap the other day. his krone round baler wouldn't bale it. V660 had no bother.

Now now guys play nice!!!
Nothing wrong with a Krone or McHale baler. Think the Welger belt 160 edges it for tidier bales perhaps.
The Krone can seriously swallow stuff, but the netting is fickle compared to the others.
I've only got a old Welger 220, so no vested interest, just what I've seen having a run with mates balers.

As long as it's baled before it rains or blows away, who cares?

Need a swath roller on a JD 7290r but have no front links, thought about mounting it on the weight frame and moving it manually but not as to drag the ground when turning, just as a quick fix for this year, as time not is on my side and 40ft swath got a sheet on at the mo but that's starting to tear up. any good suggestions, or useless comments appreciated.:)

Quarry conveyor belt....

Does the job well and a perfect width between the wheels.

Not as easy to get hold of now they've put up cameras at our local site :unsure::D
