Gains and losses on straw sales tend to cancel out, over the years. The annual lunacy of the standing straw auctions starts next week here
Yes, the big advantage of the straw auction from the grower's point of view is that the auctioneer has to account for all the cash.Caveat emptor
we sell more than we use, but hate to think what it would cost if we were buying in but we do value the muck they leave behind!Sounds like we should be charging more if it’s that important!
what price is a large heston bale at the moment then?

We grow corn for the straw to sell to those lovely horses ladies normally worth 2 tonnes of grain to the acrelittle bales can /do pay better than the grain even allowing for pk replacement and they have a health benefit better than the gym!!
Thanks for that, gone up the hill.there is a large collective sale online this weekend ( ends 7pm Monday ) thou it should be noted that for the first time in history a buyers premium of 3% will be charged on the sale price )
Thanks for that, gone up the hill.
Still 6hrs left to have a bit of fun.
Let's just hope that all the buyers have all done their due diligence. And don't forget they have the second online straw auction tomorrow night.
A sale i went to One field I walked wasn't as described in catalogue.Let's just hope that all the buyers have all done their due diligence.
We've got fields worth £140/acre and others only £40 but they all look very much the same from the road.
Did you have enough time to warn the auctioneer or just have to go 50/50?Only 2 of us at auction noticed! And the other wasnt the auctioneer!
Other chap said it was WW not WO. Vendor didnt know, I backed up chap and said its was wheat when I walked it.Did you have enough time to warn the auctioneer or just have to go 50/50?
