Looks as though the posties are going to come out as well. Good job I say. Should make everyone realise how totally irrelevant a daily postal service is. I would get rid of 50 % of the posties and go for every 2nd or 3rd day delivery. Why do we need a daily service?

BB
Well they won't be missed here delivering sh!t , wouldn't be so bad if you could light the fire with the paper but it don't even burn proper 🙄

80% of the stuff that gets put in my post box is junk, generic marketing pamphlets, Its a weekly occurrence to get a Domino's pizza offer and the nearest one is miles away!!

To be honest I empty the farm office post box maybe twice a week, and thats doing well.

Think they might be letting the cat out the bag if they strike , think they best just keep their heads down and hope they can keep "getting away with it" for a bit longer .....

Unmissable vouchers today…£5 off Tena pads…Postie was three hours late…assume it was because he had to visit every single house on his round.

Even when they get a lump sum bonus the Unions say no!
When large companies know their pay offer is s**t, they often stick a (before tax) lump sum in to try and look good.
When inflations low they use that as a measure of how much to offer, which usually works, until inflations high and they get caught out.

Would you like a few quid to help with your winter feed bill or a decent price for your milk?

With the current state of the labour market, where businesses cannot recruit staff, at what point will requests for references because staff are applying for other jobs and the consequent threat of mass resignations by employees, be more effective than the threat of strike action?
No end of job adverts in this part of the country and no end of company's moaning they cannot recruit the staff they need!

The reason why they cannot get the staff is because most of them are only paying £10 or less an hour, no one can live on such a low wage now and speaking to someone the other day, he was on £9.70 hour, costs him £25 in fuel to get there and home again for an 8 hour day, by the time he paid the fuel/ tax taken on his wages he is only taking home £40 a day so a fiver an hour! his boss would not up his wage so he has handed his notice in and can you blame him?!

On the strikes, the whole thing could well get out of hand like the 70's so no doubt if that looks likely Boris and the media will ramp up the fear factor on the Ukraine war to deflect attention from the strike action!

@Minesapint , our postie is a Steph', coloured hair piercings and yet a truly lovely person. We received a hand written letter expressing her thanks for the Christmas gift we left her. If we don't collect the mail from the end of the road for a couple of days she comes to check we are okay.
Pretty lassies aside, the postie is often the first and only point of contact for a lot of folk both in cities and rural areas these days. She or he is a font of knowledge, a carer, a watchful eye and much more to many folk and many communities. Our previous postie was first to raise concerns over two elderly folk who had come to harm in our neighbouring village. I'd be sad to see the service diminished.
