A short disc is a great tool. Not too expensive if you keep away from the prestige brands

We have given this a try today. Quite impressed with it, and not overly expensive though it is ex demo, not new.View attachment 906160View attachment 906161
Doing the same today all be it with auto reset, a tined cultivator can remove compaction and wheelings from harvesting and spraying, which is where the short discs fall short imo. In a dry year or if you have a combine on tracks then it's perhaps not a problem.
@Poncherello1976 looks a decent packer on that Dalbo 👍🏻

What sort of power do the sub disc take to pull got a 140hp here only want to go 5 inch down but to just make 1 pass as we are going over twice with a set of pigtail drags at present

What make is the one you are using? Yes a good packer on the back, though we will probably run over with a set of rolls after using it as it comes up a bit nobbly as the packer has a large gaps in it. I do not mind this as it should not block up.
This has 11 legs, our current KV has 10, with winged points and you defiantly fell the extra pull needed. Plan is to cut down a cultivator pass, put the rolls over it and then drill with a tined drill. We do 2 passes with our KV currently. I am trying a new KV on Wednesday, so we will see how that goes.

@robbie saw the light and went from pigtails to a terradisc. I told him it would be life changing....

Trouble is baling and leading straw plus spreading muck and slurry on the stubble often needs just a lift. How much do these short discs cut in much as we had a set years ago that couldn’t penetrate the ground if it is dry

Steady on @Flat 10 or your hat wont fit.🤣

Still using the Pigtail.

What I've been doing recently is post harvest apply muck and roar the stubbles up with the pigtail to incorporate muck, get a chit and remove wheeling. The plan is to go through next time with terradisc and drill behind.

Weve been running our 4m behind either 100 or 130 hoss quite happily at 8-9 kmh straight into stubble sowing cover crops, although it does make the 100 hoss snort if you drop it in 5/6 inches to remove deep wheeling.

Yes but look at your soil....!! Subdisc will work in anything pretty much, your pigtails would struggle to even get in the ground on some of my soils. Just because a Subdisc can go in 14" deep or more doesnt mean you have to. On the brash I'd struggle to get it in more than 5-6" as it would be on the limestone.
