Stubble turnips, who grows them?

I have a field of grass I intend to graze with sheep over winter it adjoins a field of spring barley does anyone successfully sow stubble turnips after spring barley or is it too late? It would be the first few days in September before I could get them sown, this is Lancashire about 40ft above sea level.

Is direct drilling the best way to establish them? (that would mean contractors as I haven’t got one)

Could sow them into the standing crop of barly before you harvest so they get a good start

and when sowing into stubble I just use the combi drill with the power Harrow very lightly making some tilth

rape, especially a hybrid one, eg redstart, will easily come after s barley, as long as its in pre early sept, fine. We put some in behind s barley last year, and will do again, one problem, the barley lodged, and volunteers, swamped some of the rape.

You’ll be fine in early September. To be 40ft above sea level you must be on the good bit 😉👍 so crack on. I agree with the others, I’d go Rapid Root or similar, rape and ST. Will defo want a touch of N though to get it growing well with being late sown.

We grow a stubble turnip, rape mix after spring barley. We’re quite early so it would be drilled mid/late aug. Has anyone tried mixing in clover/vetch?
