Stupidly high seedrates

We drilled spring barley at about 275kg/ha in late April on some snotty stuff and about 220kg/ha on some beet land and I would say in spots it's a bit thin. Really down to getting very little rain fall for the growing season but it's not bad.

We did try cutting winter wheat rate on our heavy land and that was an un mitigated disaster.

We have slugs unless it is a dry summer and we use preemergence herbicides that can reduce establishment we also get winter kill
We would normally have more than enough moisture so high plant stand is only limiting when crops lodge this is also reduced as notill is slower to get going in the spring

For winter wheat too high a seed rate is only a problem for very early September planting if there is enough moisture for quick germination only where weeds and pests not a problem
