Sub 15k, 200hr per year, 120hp - Renault?

I'm looking for a suitable tractor with a fairly simple set of requirements.

1. Air conditioning
2. Some form of suspension (good air seat alone considered?)
3. Circa 110-120hp

We have two A series Valtra tractors, both without air con, suspension, air seats, and have 12x12 gearboxes. Great simple little tractors that do the job absolutely fine; typically we have one tractor which does a lot of stationary/driverless work and the second does field work. The field work tractor does approx. 200hrs per year of jobs such as tedding, fertiliser spreading, spraying and some road work. Spending 4 days in a tractor sweating my nuts off in 25+ degree heat doing some tedding followed by getting covered in dust and bouncing around whilst cultivating really does not entertain me; not to mention the damaging health aspect.

Looking at past threads and various brands, its apparent that I'll get a lot more bang for my buck, whilst meeting my spec, going for the likes of a Renault or Claas vs a CNH/JD/AGCO.

Is there any particular model to avoid from Renault/Claas? Chances are in this budget its more likely to be a Renault. Am I missing anything obvious from other brands? Deutz seemingly command more of a premium too.

Models I'm looking at are the 600 Ares and Arion series.

Old Renault 145 and above might have gearbox trouble if abused and all turboed.
So a 120 (110 hp) or 133 (123 hp ) might be what you are looking for. Go for an all lever one, some have electronic hydraulics?? MWM engine same as built the Fendt reputation! Had mine for 21 years now (120-54) and just been in for main lift ram seal. She's on her 2 nd clutch as was on a forager early on.

With prices like they are think you may struggle to find what you want for less than 15k, you never mentioned loader but that could be taken off and sold to reduce price perhaps?
Nice looking tractor but way out of budget unfortunately. I was thinking something more along the lines of: https://www.agriaffaires.co.uk/used/farm-tractor/41777670/renault-ares-640-rz.html - perhaps the few extra pennies spent on a Claas would be a better bet?

Why not fit a good air seat to one of the Valtras? Lot cheaper than buying another tractor
Air-con is nice, but a bit of a luxury on a 200 hr per year tractor

Or even look into the feasibility/cost of retro fitting air con to one ( or both ) of the Valtras as well as updating the seat. It wouldn’t cost £15k.

Definitely a possibility; but putting £5k along with one of the Valtras to upgrade to a larger cab, more comfortable tractor and more power makes more sense to me rather than retrofitting. I would leave one tractor without A/C for sure, it does 90% of its work stationary without a driver.

It is a borderline luxury, spending 40hrs a week in something thats a toss up between being covered in dust or being roasted isn't really on.

The valtra cab is a little bit tight to say the least.

Lovely tractors and if I could find a good tidy well priced one, I would have it (y)

Ares 620 630 640 would be within budget. Good ride and air con. Get rz model for proper clutchless shuttle. JD engine, massey dyna 4 gearbox and back end. You might even get a 656 or 696 with front sus.
What he said there decent tractors just hard to come by I was looking for one for ages never did find one…

I hope it’s that Roger.
The only Renault we had (and put me off them for life) the actual lift cylinder broke, which is kind of the heart of the tractor.

Quite a few hurliamanns/ small deutzs round here now if you want something with a loader be better spending a little more

No loader needed thankfully. Just a basic tractor with A/C and a comfortable cab.

Looks like I'll be keeping a good eye out for an Ares. I'd like a Mk3 Agrotron but they command serious money now for the age of them too.

If you’re a valtra man, why not another?

Fulton has a 106-54 but probably not enough up for you

That would be a better bus than a 106-54. The C has quadrishift, not hexashift, and will have a lower flow pump than a CIS or cebis model. They might even be open centre rather than ccls. Will still probably do all you need, if you’re used with a valtra a series.

I'm not too up on Claas spec, seems like a straight forward big tractor for little money
