Sub soiler on front links

I’m thinking of making a twin leg Subsoiler to go on the front linkage of the drilling tractor with low distance legs to go in front of the wheels idea being that we can put it down when on a rutted tramline or in the gateway etc then the tractor wheels will level it down again but water won’t sit in tramline over winter. Anyone tried it how will steering be will it give the tractor a lot of grief? It’s a 200hp tractor on a Weaving 4m mounted gd. So need a few weights anyway so Subsoiler will be used as weight for 95% of the time

I had the mounts modified on the Shakaerator this year to fit the front linkage. It worked well but needs some kind of depth control. The biggest problem is that it steers the tractor unless absolutely perfectly square.

I store a bit of gear for Agriweld as they are up the road and help with developing prototypes etc on our farm. So have played with the mantis from day one. The mantis is obviously designed as a full width shallow low disturbance subsoiler / loosener. Look on there website facebook page you’ll see various videos pictures etc to give you an idea and then give them a ring and talk to Dean he’ll tell you all about from there. But it works best with mounted machines. The front wheels control depth / stop it digging in and the tractor trying to climb over the top of it. To give the tractor a chance to steer the wheels and tines are all on pivots and finally the design of the headstock again has to be quite clever again to stop the tractor trying to climb over the top of it particularly tractors with suspended front axles.

hope some of that helps

cheers

Alistair.

Yes that’s very useful thankyou. I hadn’t even considered the tractor climbing over it so I guess the lower links need to be horizontal when in work to push straight

Or slightly up so that weight is transferred to the front of the tractor.
