Wifeys diesel Forester is up for replacement sometime in the next year or so.

Really want to stick with diesel but also want auto box as well as I have dodgy knee And find driving manuals any distance can be painful.

Trouble is all the newer Subaru’s are petrol only as it seems the boxer diesel has been discontinued.

So what else in the max 3yo range that has a proper 4wd system is worth looking at.

Budget 15k ish!

Edit- wifey really likes the Forester and apart from the stupid make work gearbox so do I.

Honda CR-V 1.6 twin-turbo diesel with the 9 speed ZF automatic. I really do rate it highly. Available in various trim levels but as an used car the top of the range SE represents the best value with its electric hatch, leather, reversing camera, keyless entry and go, pano roof and much else. Yes, it has 4wd too. Well built [in the UK] and reliable. £15k maximum for a good 2015/16 one with less than 50k miles.

Trouble is with BMW 4x4s is you either look like a Russian drug dealer, or some old duffer in pink cords who drives at 17mph everywhere normally going out in the car that is fully equipped with ostrich hide beige interior and 2 inches of shagpile carpet under the throttle driving the village shop 0.9miles away twice a week to buy a paper. There is no in between.

Be sure to get good evidence of the sale/buyers of the Forester .....you’ll need it when they’re driving across your fields in the winter!

We have Forester Hybrids launching here in a couple of months...petrol engine, but 19% fuel savings over petrol only versions...went to a pre-launch event a couple of weeks ago...Is it available in UK yet...I understand most markets are on very tight allocations ?

would not recommend one at all. Test drove one once. After a mile turned back, noisy engine, crap autobox. this was 2014 model.

Not sure how you can say the above- the 7 speed double clutch box is a peach and always in the right ratio to exploit the engines torque at ultra low rpm or let it spin to redline when needed. Ride quality and road noise however - shocking !

Facelift (much faster infotainment) XC60 D4 R-design if you can stretch to it. Simply beautifully designed and implimented.

Had a look at this one.
They were looking for a bit more at time, would have needed new tyres at year end, a service shortly and tlc from the Valet.
Got a manual 2017 diesel with 3.5k mile pre lockdown now only 4800. They are going to laugh when I take it for a MOT.
Legacy? Or if you like black interior CX5, though felt small inside.
