Subaru forester

Came across Subaru Legacy when I worked for a cross country gas pipeline construction company. The engineers had discoveries and everyone else had Legacies. Quite embarrasing when the engineers kept nicking the Subaru because the Discoveries kept getting stuck. Onto my fourth one now after my daughter wrote one off by going through a hedge then rolling two and a half times down a hillside. The only glass broken was the rear passenger door window which she crawled out of without a scratch on her. With the help of the farmer and some bystanders we rolled it back onto its wheels. Jumped in started straight away and drove it home. Any other car and my daughter would have been seriously injured if not dead. Totally reliable and with winter tyres on your driving in snow when no one else is.

I have a 2010 diesel forester with 85k on it, went through mot today no bother.
Good things first. Plenty of space in cabin for 4 a bitty tighter for 5. Big boot. A proper spare wheel. 50+mpg on long motorway dual carriageway runs, 43 average pottering around.
Goes up hills no bother, great in snow. Plenty of clearance.
Poor. It ain't aswell appointed internally as some. Parts are dear compared to Ford or VAG. DPF has driven we bonkers at times though they seemed to have got on top of it. Drives well enough but until you get used to how it is actually gripping can feel a bit unsettled on twisty stuff.
Would I buy another one?
Yes if I was sure of the DPF issues being overcome.

Have a 2010 Forester with 180k kilometres on it ,only trouble was the dpf filter not clearing itself so a trip to the dealer and they could reset the dpf or regenerate it whatever. A month ago coming home from sheep sales with load warning light came on at that stage you are supposed to drive in a high gear and give it 2500 rpm or3000rpm for 10 minutes or so but I was on a very twisty road with the trailer and this couldn't be done . The dpf filter light then flashes so a dealer job. Brought it in there and dpf completely blocked and dealer couldn't unblock it so he said that the injectors were over fuelling and needed doing so engine out and injectors done and new dpf and i told him to stick in new clutch plate when engine was out as I pull a trailer a fair bit of the time. Bottom line bill was euros 3000 and Subaru stood by on some Warranty for half the price of the filter which was approx 2400 full price. I now half understand why people voted for Trump who doesn't believe in climate stuff and I would still buy another Subaru like them.
