The reason that we get the calf sub and have the beef eff scheme is because we are disadvantaged.I am really struggling to follow the logic of your argument as I said before the points I made as to the advantages of climate, shortness of winter, proximity to markets etc are just common sense.
There are advantages of farming in the south no doubt, there are also advantages of farming in the north, they balance themselfs out, infact they dont they are in favour of farming in the north, bad weather or not, and our government is more on side.

My original points are all still valid and I was not commenting on the political climate as it can change quicker than the weather.

No they are not, they are slight disadvantages that is all, there are many advantages that out weigh them points 100%, i suspect you have never even been to England let alone farmed there if you had you wouldnt be so bloody short sighted.

Hardly abuse saying your points are short sighted, your attitude of hard done by scott is not good, the grass isnt always greener on the other side.
I never said the grass was greener or that I was hard done by,why do you find it so hard to acknowledge the simple truth do you have some kind of issue with the fact that the further south you go the shorter the winter and that you are closer to the main markets i.e. people. I really can't make it any simpler and is quite obviously true.

Yes,agreed but it is also to compensate us for the disadvantage we are faced with.
I think it was more an acknowledgement that the area based system missed the target when the historic element was removed having seen the problems this caused in England ,remember the french did take these options also , our gov wasnt interested nor did the nfu elite push for it but they had the opportunity to redirect some funds in those directions from the pot if they wanted .

To put gov / nfu attitude in perspective - you get bvd eradication scheme
- we get hls and btb
I think its more to do with looking after no.1 and the potential vote yield

We are talking at cross purposes here,I am talking about the economics you are talking about the social aspects of living next to large centres of population. The south must have something going for it as an awful lot of people chose to live there, far far more than choose to live in the north.

I thought the thread was about wether or not it affected production costs or not ,how they are distrubuted would have much inflenced on how they affected production costs there is alot more to costs incurred than just variable costs especially if decisions are allowed to be made re distribution on a more local (devolved ) level .
