Subsidies on cattle

Ok am I missing something here,farmers weekly this week page 20,
"AHDB survey show that among beef farms in England about 17% will be unable to survive without subsidies and 53 % will find their business in financial distress.
No wonder my arable neighbours think we all get lots of subs ,yes we get area payment on grass but they area payment on their land.I totally disagree with the impression that subs are paid on beef cattle.Now tell me I have read this all wrong.

It's not the fact we all get area payment ,I would rather we all got nothing and a decent price for our goods but beef and subs does give the impression that cattle get a payment.Just state land gets an area payment what it goes towards crops,grass or cattle is up to the person getting the area payment.
