8 Hereford X cows go to winter field after weaning in late November/ early December. Get a bale of haylage every couple of days when the feeder is empty. Always have a mineral lick.Think of the natural world. Ruminants will build up condition over summer/autumn, lose some over the winter and give birth a little lean in condition in the spring.
Come calving in May they have lost a little fat over the winter but are in good condition and calve easily and milk well. Very fertile girls too not had an empty yet. Think they do well as they have fresh air and plenty of exercise all year round.
