Anyone have any tricks how to get cows to eat their straw? I dont have a diet feeder.
Mine don’t usually need too much forcing too eat nice leafy straw. They are on nice soft wheat with a bit of grass in it at the moment and are mopping it up as fast as they do the bales of hay.
if they are a bit slow I pour 10l of Mollasses on top of the bale. 99/100 that’s problem solved then

They’ll eat the straw before they eat their front feet, I wouldn’t worry, molasses if you really want to push the idea!! Mine are eating straw and still finding plenty grazing to keep them happy, sometimes they want two bales a day another day one, another gang has a bale a day an clear it up but they’ve got more grazing to go at!!🤷‍♂️
