It can happen, I AI'd an easy calving shorthorn into a pb LM heifer as an experiment and had to cut her to get him out. I only put ropes onto two others this year for reference! No, he came from mainland Scotland. No idea really about due date. It’s just one of those things. I was just pointing out that native breeds do not necessarily go hand in hand with easy calving
Wats not to loveOnce .
I calve down at 2 with limousins and have done for the last 10 years, very little issue with them unless you decide to breed one to a shorthorn! Not same as continentals though.
Not to my knowledge no. Ask a pal to help you out but wouldn’t try stabbing one tbhHi all, got a problem with trespassers not sticking to the footpath in the fields, they think it’s ok to climb over the gates, cut wires and walk in fields nowhere near the footpath. (btw this is all pasture fields) It’s now got to the stage where some big nasty dogs are chasing the suckler cows and their calves. I know that I am legally allowed to shoot the dogs but unfortunately do not own a shotgun so what can I do? I have spoken to many dog owners but they honestly don’t care, what can I legally do? can I stab them instead??
Its a warm feeling, you should see the size of my new shed hiyWats not to love

all i can say is you're not alone. i'm scunnered at the moment. calves have been finding every different way to die or get ill, cows getting ill, calves not sucking, last year store breaking a leg and the worst of all, this relentless freezing rain turning the place into a quagmire , scunneredI’ve had a mare of a calving time this year from abortion to cryp calves that won’t suck and really have had enough of the f…ing things pretty well convinced myself that they’ve got to go .
I love to look at a field of great looking cows and calves but I’m not getting any younger kids are not farming and I just can’t quite decide what to do .
I’m sure others have been in my position so do you have any regrets about shifting them on ?
We currently buy weaklings in so my plan would be to replace the suckler calves with extra dairy cross weanlings.

although in a couple of months i'll have forgotten and go through it again next year....
When we had blonde bulls we used to calve their heifers at 2 no problem. Now calve Charolais and Angus heifers at 2 as well. Last year I had 2 Angus bulls running with the heifers. Didn’t touch a calf off of one and the calves have come on really well. Not same as continentals though.
Sorry to hear that John. Hope everything picks up soon for youSimilar here. Sickening.
Hfd X, AAX, Sim X.What breed?
That’s got to be a f**king jokeGet Sheep instead of cows.
And some are your enemiesI would miss them, they are my friends.
If I hadn’t got a gun an I couldn’t stop the dog by other means I’d just run the fecker over!!! Stabbing a ramblers dog to death may come across as a bit over the top, and also may bring attention from the wrong sort of people, like a psychiatrist
I’ve found dairy x mothers to be excellent mothers plenty of milk etc just use a good bull job doneI have a few BBx out of Holsteins that I put an Angus on, they calve easily and have tons of milk and no creep needed and are quiet, never calved one yet or had to suckle the calf to mother, fairly easy keepers.
Been very different down here, no rain for months and very warm.all i can say is you're not alone. i'm scunnered at the moment. calves have been finding every different way to die or get ill, cows getting ill, calves not sucking, last year store breaking a leg and the worst of all, this relentless freezing rain turning the place into a quagmire , scunnered
