No, they could be grown after main crop on sand. Happens quite a lot

Friend of my father pioneered new potatoes for Xmas back in the eighties.
Abreys may be the name on the packaging.

Probably 2nd crop Maris peer. I Used to harvest in mid may then replant to harvest mid November to mid December in Suffolk

Our Airfreight at present is around£2.50 a tonne so shipping potatoes is a bit uneconomic. I did work for Vitacress for a short while and they used to grow new potatoes for the UK in Portugal well into November and sometimes later.

Early potatoes used to be lifted in Shropshire and then replanted with salad potatoes for Christmas.. It also helped reduce pcn numbers by disrupting the lifecycle. One of the useful bits of general knowledge I learnt at college.

I worked for vitacress in Portugal in late 2001. We harvested new potatoes for the Christmas market. Very busy the week before Christmas. Last wagon left on the 23rd to get spuds into the M&S hub for Christmas Eve.

Andrew Crowe used to double crop new potatoes next door to Harper Adams.

I remember seeing an article in the FW about similar, planted in July iirr.

Father in law always had new potatoes out of his garden for Christmas, from when I started calling, back in the 1970's.

Most likely they’re from the Suffolk coast sandland rather than the Brecklands (which spans Norfolk and Suffolk) and in that case probably from a growers CoOp called 3M’s which has several largish growers as members.

We grew a crop once , really struggled to shift them and they were lovely spuds. At that time the supermarkets were wanting them set skinned which I think are an abomination , set skinned new potatoes that is!
Thety still struggle with scrapers as the shelf life can be very short.
Seem to remember keeping them blight free is shall we say a little difficult , I think intervals got a little shrunk!
